Manchester United vs Chelsea predictions and betting tips for the Premier League fixture on Sunday 28th April. This showdown for the top four is a huge fixture for both sides, with neither team really at their best.
Manchester United are in their worst run of form for over 50 years.
Can Chelsea strengthen their bid to play in the Champions League next season?
If United lose, their Champions League hopes are effectively over.
Kick-off time: 4:30pm
Date: Sunday 28th April 2019.
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester.
About a decade ago, United vs Chelsea at Old Trafford would be the first game Premier League fans would look for when the fixture list was released. Nowadays it unfortunately isn’t as big of a fixture since the rise of Manchester City and Liverpool. The race for the top four has been an odd one this season as nobody seems to want it. All four of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham have been dropping points rather than picking them up, making for an unpredictable exciting finish to the season.
Manchester United have been in pretty awful form recently. Their worst run of form for 57 years in fact. With only two wins in nine games, (and being very lucky to win those two), they have gone from favourites to finish in a Champions League spot to outsiders.
Chelsea haven’t been at their best lately but find themselves sitting in 4th place. Superstar Eden Hazard is the main reason as to why they find themselves this high in the table and with Real Madrid circling, Chelsea must be in the Champions League next season if they stand any chance of keeping the Belgian.
Manchester United weren’t as awful as recent performances last time out in the Manchester derby, especially in the first half where they tested the City defence and keeper a few times. If they play like they did in that first half, they may find themselves with a good chance against this Chelsea side who drew 2-2 at home to Burnley in their last game.
United haven’t scored in their last three games in all competitions. This is a rather alarming statistic for a club of their size and they will be hoping to rectify this against a Chelsea side that have conceded seven in their last three games.
The correlation of form between Chelsea winning and Hazard scoring is pretty much parallel. After going on a great run last month, the Belgian has struggled to find the net in his last few games, however he has made it up by assisting his fellow teammates.
After showing some good initiative and effort on Wednesday, my betting tip is for Marcus Rashford to score anytime, which you can get at 21/10.
This is a fixture with big implications for United, if they lose this, then it is almost impossible for them to finish in the top four this season. It is incredible that Ole Gunnar Solskjær has even managed to get them into this position in the first place considering how far behind the top four they were when he took over.
With neither side at their best, this is a tough game to call. Both teams will be looking for a good reaction after disappointing results last time out. I expect it to be a high tempo game with both sets of players wanting to Prove themselves. Therefore, I am going to side with the home team. I predict Manchester United to win 2-1 in this game against Chelsea.
Man United to win – 17/10
Draw – 12/5
Chelsea to win – 9/5
