For City, it’s a simple formula – win their remaining league games and they will celebrate back-to-back titles.

Spurs themselves could do with a victory given that nearest rivals Arsenal are breathing down their necks.

Following the European dramatics witnessed at the Etihad on Wednesday night, focus now turns to domestic targets with these two sides unsurprisingly vying for success in the upper echelons of the Premier League. City, as we all know, can seal a second successive league title by winning their last five games – and this is undoubtedly their trickiest home match.

Spurs have recently demonstrated that they are more than capable of going toe to toe with the continent’s elite clubs, which Pep Guardiola’s men certainly are.

I do however feel that Harry Kane’s omission from the team due to an injury sustained in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final could ultimately be their undoing. Sure, Spurs actually managed to scrape through to the semi-finals courtesy of the away goal ruling but City still won the match on Wednesday night – and a repeat would come as no surprise.

For that reason, I think the home side will win without keeping a clean sheet, which is what happened in midweek.

Gary Lineker stated on Sunday that you’d be hard pushed to name a player who has outshone Raheem Sterling in the Premier League this campaign – and it’s difficult to argue against that viewpoint. The former Liverpool winger has been in scintillating form all season but seems to have edged up another notch since the turn of the year.

Sterling bagged a brace in his side’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace last weekend and followed that up with another double against Spurs on Wednesday. In fact, a third strike in the dying embers of the game was ultimately overruled by VAR – but there’s no doubt the Jamaican-born attacker is a man in form.

Consequently, the bookies are wising up to the 24-year-old’s continuous penchant for scoring goals and we’re now starting to see him odds-on in the anytime scorer market. You can however back him at even money to score at some stage against Spurs – but be quick!

There will be a perceptible nervousness around the Etihad on Saturday lunchtime due to what’s at stake and City really can’t afford any more slip-ups with challengers Liverpool on a decent run.

The good thing for home supporters, though, is that their side are capable of blowing teams away in the first half. The Citizens have made a habit of scoring goals early on in matches which generally dictates that they go on and win with some comfort.

Spurs definitely won’t make it easy for them – that we do know – but I see the hosts having too much firepower to be kept at bay for 90 minutes. You can get 8/1 on the hosts winning by the odd goal in three, and that’s about how I see this one panning out.
