Millwall v Nottingham Forest Preview

Millwall

Millwall bounced back from their humiliation at the hands of Peterborough by defeating Sheffield United with a late Steve Morison goal. It was an important goal for both teams and it leaves the Blades still looking for a win. The Lions are strong here though and they are undefeated since the 16th of February when Scunthorpe took three points back up the M1.

Steve Morison may have been the match-winner from the spot at the weekend, but the striker was also on target when these sides last met back in 2013. Many will fancy Neil Harris’ sides for the upset here as they came so close to promotion last season. They still have problems in defence, but so do tonight’s opponents.

Harris is still keen on adding to his squad before the end of August with injuries starting to mount and an experienced centre half is surely on the list. Central midfield is also an area of concern for the boss. He confirmed this week that they are in talks with several clubs about the possibility of bringing players in, but is likely to be concluded after this clash.

Lee Gregory has suffered with injuries this campaign and last season’s top scorer is missing from Tuesday’s squad after his was forced off at the weekend. They desperately miss the former Halifax man when he’s absent and the dynamic front three of Morison, O’Brien and the aforementioned Gregory. Chesterfield is the priority fixture according to Harris and he will make changes accordingly for this tie.

Nottingham Forest

Forest have lost both of their away games so far in the league and haven’t scored in either. They did beat Doncaster in the last round of the EFL Cup, but it required a last minute winner from Jamie Ward. Phillipe Montanier made plenty of changes for the previous round and is likely to do again. Forest have goals in their side and young Oliver Burke scored twice at the weekend in a remarkable match with Wigan. Burke is being linked with a move away from the club and has been scouted by many Premier League clubs this season.

Likewise, Britt Assombalonga is being linked with Norwich. Assombalonga’s return from injury is a real boost for the club, but don’t be surprised to see the big frontman rested for this one. Forest have a surprisingly large amount of strikers on their books – Matty Fryatt, Dexter Blackstock and the aforementioned Jamie Ward could all get another run-out. Thomas Lam, who signed over the summer has said he hopes Forest can tighten up at the back and it’s now 11 goals conceded in the first 5 games of the season (league and cup). It’s a largely new back four and they always take time to gel, but the porous nature of the backline doesn’t show any signs of abating.

Millwall v Nottingham Forest Predictions

Now we have gone through the team news in our preview we can start to look at some betting tips for Millwall vs Nottingham Forest. I’ve picked out three bets and have found the best odds and offers for each one to save you the hassle.

Match Prediction

Both sides are expected to make changes which often makes calling these games harder. Given how poor Forest have been away from home though, it’s probably worth taking the shorter price about Millwall to qualify for the 3rd round for your first bet on the match.

Millwall to Qualify – 8/11 with Sky Bet: BET HERE.

Over 2.5 Goals Prediction

Neither of these sides can seemingly keep a clean sheet at the moment and with possible disruption to the starting 11s we could see a high scoring affair once again.

Over 2.5 Goals – 10/11 with Ladbrokes: BET HERE.

Anytime Goalscorer Tip

With Gregory absent, Assombalonga and Burke likely to be rested and Morison possibly benched as well. It could be a chance for Fred Onyedinma to step up to the mark.

Fred Onyedinma to score anytime – 8/1 with Bet Bright: BET HERE.
