Minnesota United vs Vancouver Whitecaps Preview

It’s been a good season for Minnesota United so far. They have largely relied upon their excellent home form which has seen them suffer defeat one just occasion so far. That loss came against the excellent Philadelphia Union, but they have bounced back with three consecutive wins. They snuck past FC Dallas last time out, and seven days ago, they were on the travels picking up a very credible point at the Rio Tinto. They’ve also battered FC Cincinnati and easily swept aside San Jose Earthquakes. Unlike most MLS sides, Minnesota United don’t just rely upon one marksman although Darwin Quintero is the main man with seven goals so far. He also netted when these two sides met at the beginning of the campaign. The Loons ran out 3-2 winners that day. Although they kept a clean sheet against Dallas, Minnesota aren’t exactly watertight, and they’ve seen BTTS land in seven of their last nine games. Many MLS sides have been playing in cup competitions this week, but the hosts have had the luxury of seven days rest, and that help them make a fast start here.

Vancouver Whitecaps are struggling, and their busy schedule isn’t helping matters. The Canadian side were beaten in the Canadian Championship by Cavalry in midweek, and it was another miserable night at BC Place. They are now winless in nine, and have lost three games in a row coming into this fixture. They’ve conceded seven goals in their last two MLS games with New England Revolution putting four past them a couple of weeks ago. The defence is an area that Marc dos Santos needs to address, but with a game approximately every 3.5 days, there hasn’t been much time to work on this during the week. Down the other end of the field, Fredy Montero is at least looking sharp, and he’ll be looking to add to his six goals this campaign. The Whitecaps have the third worst away record in the Western Conference, and have shipped over two goals per game away from BC Place.

Minnesota United vs Vancouver Whitecaps Betting Tips

The Loons are expected to win this clash, and they are a very short price to collect three points. They are ideal for an accumulator, although we are looking to find a little more value. It ended 3-2 when they met earlier in the campaign, and four of the last five meetings between these sides have featured three or more goals. It’s also landed in seven of Minnesota’s last nine MLS ties, and I expect a few goals to be scored here. Vancouver can’t defend, and they will struggle to contain a potent Minnesota attack, but they aren’t shy of getting on the scoresheet themselves. The home side to win with Over 2.5 Goals looks like the best pick in this one, and is a shade of odds-on.

It’s worth sticking with Darwin Quintero here. He netted when they met earlier in the campaign, and he’s in a decent run of form at the moment. Although he does miss a few chances, he takes over two shots per match, and earned his side a precious point against FC Dallas last time out.
