New York Red Bulls vs Montreal Impact Predictions and Betting Tips

The midnight kick-off in the MLS comes from the Red Bull Arena as NY Red Bulls host Montreal Impact. We’ve got betting tips for the clash within our MLS betting preview.

Montreal Impact struggled to make the break through last weekend without Didier Drogba, will they be able to hold their own on the road?

New York Red Bulls v Montreal Impact Preview

New York Red Bulls

After a slight wobble, the Red Bulls appear to be back on track. Just 1 point from a possible nine was cause for concern at the end of June, but they’ve bounced back but Jesse Marsch’s men have not dropped any points since.

They’ve picked up 16 points from a possible 18 here with only a goalless draw with Portland preventing them picking up maximum points in those 6 games.

They currently sit in the Eastern Conference play-offs, level on points with today’s opponents, but their away form must be a concern. They’re only win on the road was against New York City FC, which technically isn’t an away trip, just a quick hop across the river!

They have drawn their last three away matches and four of the last six. Start picking up more points on their travels and the top two is a real possibility. They are 3 points behind Toronto and 4 behind rivals NYCFC.

They are unbeaten in six and should go into this in high spirits. Bradley Wright-Phillips has 12 goals for the season although he couldn’t find the net in the fractious 2-2 draw with LA Galaxy. There was a first goal in the MLS for Sean Davis though.

Wright-Phillips could miss this game though through injury. Connor Lade is out for the rest of the season alongside Gideon Baah whilst Dax McCarty and Damien Perinelle will also miss this encounter.

Sacha Kljestan is the key man for the NY Red Bulls though. The man with the distinctive facial hair has laid on 13 assists already this season and is the key to their creative powers.

They have a very good record here against Montreal Impact winning 6 of the 7 meetings at this venue.

Montreal Impact

Montreal Impact weren’t overly convincing in their 1-0 win at home to Houston Dynamo last weekend. They have a decent home record and watching the match it was evident they were eventually going to make the breakthrough. But, their finishing wasn’t quite up to scratch and with the know-how of Didier Drogba missing through suspension, they perhaps lacked a focal point to their attack.

The Ivorian is back for this though and should come straight back into the side.

Matteo Mancosu was the hero last week when he showed composure to finish neatly past the goalkeeper. The Italian could get an extended run in the side. There are few injury worries for the away side with only Andres Romero and Lucas Ontivero absent for this clash.

They haven’t got a good record at this stadium and have struggled to win on the road recently. They’ve drawn a whopping six out of the last seven clashes on their travels and lost the other. Their last away win came at the start of April against Chicago Fire, who were hapless at the time.

They are three matches unbeaten now though so will be looking to extend that and jump above today’s opponents and within a point of fellow Canadian’s Toronto FC.

They’ve only won four of the last 16 games in the MLS and that is a real concern, far too many draws.

New York Red Bulls v Montreal Impact Predictions

I can’t back against the Red Bulls at home where they are incredibly strong. Montreal are a decent side, but have struggled on their travels and weren’t convincing when breaking down Houston Dynamo last weekend. Jesse Marsch’s side should get all three points. They also boast a great H2H record here so my first New York Red Bulls vs Montreal Impact betting tip is for the home team to win this MLS clash.

The Red Bulls tend to score a few here, even without the Bradley Wright Phillips, they should be able to grab a couple. Montreal could play their part too and have scored in 5 of the 7 meetings here between these sides so the odds for over 2.5 goals to be scored provide us with the chance to get another winning MLS prediction on this match.

The Aforementioned Sacha Kljestan takes most of the set pieces and should get a couple of opportunities here pushing forward from midfield. With BWP possibly absent, Kljestan should be the man to push NY Red Bulls on and get on the scoresheet so have a bet on Kljestan to score anytime which is our final Mew York Red Bulls vs Montreal Impact prediction this weekend.
