Seattle Sounders vs LA Galaxy predictions and betting tips for this weekend’s first live TV match from the MLS including an anytime goalscorer bet.
These two teams will meet for the third time this season as the Western Conference rivals meet at Century Link Field. We have the best bets for this MLS fixture.
The inevitable happened following last week’s limp defeat to Sporting KC. Sigi Schmid packed his bags and left the club after a miserable run of recent results. He was in charge of the club for nearly eight years and has left a huge legacy behind, but it was clear from recent performances that the players need someone new to shake things up.
Under Schmid, they reached the play-offs each year and won the Supporters Shield in 2014. He deserves enormous credit, but he Seattle failed to replace the departed players this winter and they haven’t looked like anything near a team this campaign.
They have just four points from the last seven games, which is a poor return. Their only victory came against a second string FC Dallas team who made several changes following their US Open Cup game. That was an emphatic 5-0 win and many proposed it may be a turning point but consecutive defeats to Portland and Sporting KC saw any confidence ebb away.
True, they were missing a few key players during the Copa America, but it’s been a season to forget and there is a lot of ground to make up if they are to reach the play-offs again this year.
Take the 5-0 win out of the equation and they’ve scored just 15 goals all season. They’ve also failed to score in three of their last four home games, no wonder the fans were getting agitated. They’re usually resplendent in green and make a wall of noise here, but there has been little to cheer thus far.
Longtime assistant Brian Schmetzer has taken over the reins for now and it will be an odd experience for a club which has never played a match without Schmid in charge.
They will need to at least register a shot on target if they are to get anything here. They’ve already been defeated twice by Galaxy this season, both in the league and in the US Open Cup.
Galaxy have been in excellent form recently and they came through a tough assignment in Portland last week with all three points.
They’ve been very solid defensively with Jelle Van Damme is a huge presence at the back for the LA and when not suspended, the defence is shielded by a combative Nigel De Jong.
If you include cup matches, they are on an eight match unbeaten run. They recently beat a tough, resolute Houston Dynamo side by a single Steven Gerrard goal. They didn’t get frustrated, they slowly built and wore the visitors down and it paid off. Bruce Arena has his team working as a unit and he is playing to his squad’s strengths.
Robbie Keane scored last week taking his total up to seven goals. It isn’t bad for a striker who missed a large chunk of the season due to the European Championships. Giovanni Dos Santos has also looked much improved recently and he has also claimed seven strikes this season.
Steven Gerrard may miss this match due to a recent injury, he’s rated 50/50 whilst a pair of left backs Ashley Cole and Robbie Rogers will both be absent.
They’ve conceded just three goals in seven games in three games so Arena is unlikely to tinker too much with his backline.
Can the Galaxy make it a 5th win in a row?
It’s hard to know what to make of the Sounders with their new coach. When an assistant takes over, there’s always the danger of continuation. Alternatively, he Brian Schmetzer may make drastic changes and find a way to conquer Galaxy. Either way, they couldn’t have asked for a harder opponent.
I can’t see LA Galaxy losing this match, they are simply too good at the back. My first Seattle Sounders v LA Galaxy betting tip is for LA Galaxy Draw No Bet. They are 11/10 with William Hill.

Last week’s 2-1 victory over Portland was the first Galaxy game to go over 2.5 goals since the end of May. They are tight, hard to breach, but rarely find themselves out of sight in a game. Seattle will surely be better this week and they will surely register a shot on target, but it might be a low scoring affair.
My second weekend football prediction for Seattle Sounders v LA Galaxy in the MLS is for Under 2.5 goals. It’s Evens with 888Sport.

Surprisingly Clint Dempsey is above Robbie Keane in the goalscorer betting odds. I would prefer to take the Irishman. He is linking up well with his teammates and always gets into decent positions.
My third Seattle Sounders v LA Galaxy prediction is for Robbie Keane to score anytime. He is 15/8 with Paddy Power.
