Monaco v Arsenal Betting Tips and Predictions Tonight

Tonight’s football betting tips and predictions for Monaco v Arsenal in the Champions League with three free football tips.

The Gunners travel to France with a massive task ahead of them; 3-1 down from the home leg, they need to win by 3 clear goals in Monaco to go through to the last 8 of the Champions League.

No side has ever recovered from such a margin after the home leg, but can Arsene Wenger’s team continue where they left off against West Ham and make European history in Monaco?

Monaco v Arsenal Predictions:

Since the first leg defeat, Arsenal have produced impressive domestic displays against Man United in the FA Cup and West Ham in the league. If they can repeat the 3-0 score line they managed against the Hammers in the return leg in France then they would go through. But, they face an epic battle versus history and statistics that would see The Gunners go down in history were they to qualify. Despite the odds being firmly stacked against them, Arsene Wenger remains upbeat about his side’s chances of qualification; "They are favourites but we can reverse it. We have to make sure the spirit, the belief and the desire is there”.

Wenger’s team have produced impressive form of late with the only defeat in 8 being the loss to Monaco. Their collapse at The Emirates was reminiscent of their suicidal defending earlier in the competition versus Anderlecht where they threw away a 3-goal lead and ended up drawing a game they should have won comfortably.

Monaco come into the return leg with impressive domestic form. 7 points from their 3 subsequent games including a draw versus second placed PSG is a sign that Monaco have not lost any of their confidence. With neither side’s domestic form indicating any potential weakness, the return leg will be a tough one to call and may well be decided by how Monaco set up their stall in defending their first leg advantage.

In 2013, Arsenal were in exactly the same predicament against Bayern Munich. The Gunners went into the away leg with a 3-1 deficit and came extremely close to qualifying after grabbing a 2-0 victory that saw Bayern qualify by the skin of their teeth on away goals.

As we have already seen in this year’s Champions League, away leg leads are tough to defend. Real Madrid very nearly squandered a 2-0 first leg lead against Schalke as they lost the home leg 4-3. One more Schalke goal would have eliminated a poor Madrid side.

History has shown us that despite valiant attempts at trying to overcome a deficit such as this, it is almost impossible. No team has ever successfully qualified with such a deficit from the home leg and it would take a brave man to bet on Arsenal to qualify.

Monaco have not conceded more than 2 goals since a 4-1 away defeat to Bordeaux in August. They have also not conceded 3 goals at home since 2011 and in their last 13 matches in all competitions, Monaco have only conceded a total of 3 goals. All the stats appear to be against the Gunners, but what are my predictions for this one?

The onus will be firmly on Arsenal to come out and attack, leaving them vulnerable to the counter, which has proved to be their Achilles heal on so many occasions. When Monaco took the lead at The Emirates, The Gunners just kept pouring forward which inevitably resulted in them conceding a second. When Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled one back in the 91st minute, they did not settle for this and were duly punished.  Monaco will be clever about this game and clearly already know Arsenal’s weakness. I think Arsenal will score, but I think they will push too much and end up conceding too. My first football betting tip is for both teams to score. Odds of 3/4 can be found with Bet Victor for this Monaco v Arsenal prediction.

Monaco are a team who defend well and are extremely organised. I think they will be able to limit Arsenal to just 1 goal and may well be able to snatch victory again in this tie. Despite it not being necessary for them to win, I feel Arsenal’s gung-ho attitude will serve only as their downfall against a very good defensive unit. My second Arsenal v Monaco tip is for Monaco to win on the night. Odds of 23/10 can be found with Bet Victor.

I feel that with the onus firmly on one side to score, goals are inevitable in this game. Second leg ties almost always produce goals and this has been shown already in the round of 16. Twenty goals have been scored in the four second leg ties already played (22 if you count extra time). Therefore, my final free football betting tip on Monaco v Arsenal tonight is for there to be over 2.5 goals in this one. Odds of evens can be found with Betfair.
