Germany vs Spain Prediction: Home side to trimuph despite depleated squad

Stuttgart Stadium

Date: Thursday 3rd September 2020.

Kick-off time: 7.45pm.

Competition: UEFA Nations League.

Stadium: Mercedes Benz Arena.

TV: Sky Sports.

Following Bayern Munich’s run all the way to the Champions League final, their players are still on holiday so the likes of Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry will not feature in this UEFA Nations League match against Spain on Thursday.

Despite this, our tipster is still predicting a Germany victory in Stuttgart. The Spanish side lacks a bit of killer instinct in front of goal and with the likes of Morata and Aspas not in the squad, it is hard to see where Spain’s goalscoring threat will come against this efficient Germany side.

Germany to edge past Spain

After flopping at the 2018 World Cup and then failing to win in their four Nations League matches last time around, Germany seem to be back to form and were one of the favourites to win Euro 2020. That will have to wait a year now but Joachim Lowe’s side still look good value for a win against Spain here and they are in our best 5 Nations League bets for Thursday. His side won their last four Euro 2020 qualifiers, scoring 15 goals and conceding just once.

For Spain, they tend to struggle away from home and in Euro 2020 qualifying they only managed draws against both Norway and Sweden on their travels. That isn’t to say qualification wasn’t comfortable for Luis Enrique’s side because it was. They won their other eight matches away from those two draws.

However, Germany have a nice blend of youth and experience in their squad still and with the likes of Toni Kroos, Julian Draxler, Ilkay Gundogan and Emre Can set to play a part and Chelsea’s new striker Timo Werner to lead the line, Germany to beat Spain looks a strong bet here.

Chelsea’s new striker to score first

As is the norm with this Germany side, there are a few strong options for a first goalscorer tip, however it might be wise to keep things simple and bet on Chelsea’s new striker to open the scoring.

Werner has been really impressive with RB Leipzig in recent seasons and will now look to prove his doubters wrong in the Premier League. First of all though, he needs to bounce back from his disappointing World Cup in 2018 and cement down his Germany starting place ahead of next summers rearranged European Championships.

He scored two goals in five Euro 2020 qualifying matches and once in four Nations League matches last time around.

With some big names absent for Germany, Werner will see this as a chance to put him as first choice striker for his country and he can do that by opening the scoring against Spain this week.
