Newcastle v Chelsea prediction: With three games in the space of six days, both Newcastle and Chelsea will be feeling the strain of tight fixture lists when they meet at St. James’ Park on Saturday and we have free tips for the match.
The Magpies will be hoping to replicate the scoreline from earlier this year, which saw them run out 3-2 winners on Tyne Side. Debutant Moussa Sissoko scored twice, including a last minute winner.
Newcastle have mustered just one win in their last five, and will not have enjoyed being taken to extra time by Manchester City in their midweek Capital One Cup clash. Alan Pardew fielded a fairly strong side in the hope of seeing some kind of response after a disappointing defeat to rivals Sunderland last weekend. After a fairly close game, City scored two in extra time to kill the tie off. Pardew has already stated that he will not being doing any work on the training ground with his squad this week, in order to let his players rest for the visit of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Paul Dummett both look set to miss Saturday’s fixture with knocks, leaving the hosts with problems at the back.
Watch highlights of Newcastle 3-2 last season:
Chelsea will be heading in to the game full of confidence, having brushed aside Arsenal on Wednesday night in the Capital One Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win. Mourinho rested a number of his key players for the clash at The Emirates, but his side were still too strong for Arsene Wenger’s men and we have to look at that for our Newcastle v Chelsea betting tips. Juan Mata put in another eye-catching performance, as he scored the second with a right-footed strike from outside the area.
The Spaniard has been far from central to Mourinho’s plans so far at Chelsea, but the Blue’s manager will welcome the selection headache ahead of the trip to the North East. Fernando Torres was rightly rested for the Arsenal game, after putting in match winning performance against Manchester City on Sunday. Torres wreaked havoc on the City defence, and bagged the winner at the death after a mix up between Joe Hart and Matija Nastasic.
Chelsea’s recent away performances have been exceptional, conceding just two goals in their previous six outings. With no fresh injury concerns, and the majority of his side rested, Mourinho will be looking for another strong defensive showing away from home. However, a visit St. James’ Park will provide a different sort of test. Newcastle held high-flying Liverpool last time out at home in the Premier League, and have lost just once at home all season in the league. After a promising first half against Manchester City on Wednesday, Pardew will be looking for more of the same on Saturday, but it looks as if Chelsea’s current form and momentum will lead them to a somewhat comfortable victory and that is our prediction for Newcastle v Chelsea.
Chelsea have averaged two goals per game in their last five Premier League trips to Newcastle. We should expect more of the same this weekend, and Sky Bet are offering Chelsea to score 3 or more goals at 9/4. We should see Chelsea ease to victory on Saturday and with some tired Newcastle legs, the game could be out of sight early. Titan Bet have Chelsea Half Time/Full Time at 13/8. Newcastle could possibly grab a goal at some point in the match, if the likes of Loic Remy and Hatem Ben Arfa continue their promising start to the season. Chelsea to win 3-1 at 14/1 with Ladbrokes looks attractive.
