Newport County vs Mansfield Betting Tips

Newport have made the headlines plenty of times this season, largely for their FA Cup exploits. The Exiles were only eliminated from the competition by Premier League champions-elect Manchester City, and Mike Flynn’s side always perform when the pressure is on. They should relish this League Two play-off campaign.

One of the notable things about the Exiles is that they always perform solidly at Rodney Parade, and teams always find it difficult to beat them on their own patch. They’ve lost just three of their 23 matches here this season with only MK Dons, Forest Green and (somehow) Yeovil leaving here with maximum points.

Mansfield have already left South Wales with that empty feeling having lost 1-0 to Flynn’s side back on February 9th. Robbie Wilmott’s goal was all that separated the sides, and although the Stags probably just about shaded it overall, they couldn’t find a way through.

Only Tranmere and MK Dons have conceded fewer goals at home than Newport, and they will be hard to breach once more.

It’s always difficult for sides to pick themselves up following the disappointment of narrowly missing out on automatic promotion, and David Flitcroft will have a job on his hands here. Mansfield are significantly better on their own patch, and they have struggled on the road recently. They’ve won just once on the road since mid-January, and will be keen to bounce back from two consecutive defeats on their travels.

You would expect Newport to control the game, and have the measure of a Mansfield side, who stumbled their way to the finishing line. The Welshmen are ten games unbeaten, and also kept fellow play-off contenders Tranmere off the score-sheet here.

The Stags are highly likely to turn things around in Nottinghamshire next week, but it is probable that they will have a deficit to make up in that tie.

Newport vs Mansfield Anytime Goalscorer Prediction

A number of different players have fired in vital goals over the last couple of months, and there are numerous options to pick from.

Padraig Amond might be of interest, especially given that he is likely to be on penalty-taking duty here. Mickey Demetriou missed twice from the spot earlier in the campaign, and was superceded by the Irishman.

Amond hasn’t scored for a while, but he netted several times in the FA Cup, proving that he is always capable of playing up to the big occasion.

The 31-year old’s last goal came on April 13th, but I think he can end his barren run here. He’s netted against Manchester City, Middlesbrough and Leicester this season, so he’s certainly capable of finding the net against Mansfield.

It’s 2/1 with Betfair for Padraig Amond to Score Anytime in this game, and new customers can get £100 in free bets to use on the final weekend of the Premier League season.

Newport vs Mansfield Goals Betting Tips

Newport’s game have been extremely low-scoring this season, and play-off first leg games are traditionally fairly low-scoring. Mansfield couldn’t find the net against MK Dons, and they could also struggle to conjure up enough creativity in this tie.

Only one of Newport’s home games since Boxing Day have ended with three or more goals, and that came against a free-scoring Bury side. Flynn’s men have kept 11 clean sheets in 14, and this match could start off in a fairly cagey fashion.

The last two games between these sides at Rodney Parade have featured just three goals in total, and another low-scoring game looks likely.

Under 2.5 Goals is available at 8/11 with Betfred, and that looks a decent play despite being odds-on. Betfred are offering a £30 free bet to use on this weekend’s action.
