The FA Cup sees Liverpool travel to Oldham on Sunday in decent form after a 5-0 demolition of Norwich last time out, the same number of goals they scored when these two met in the 3rd round of this competition last year.
Oldham took a shock lead at Anfield that day, before Liverpool quickly snuffed out any hope of an upset as they started a run that took them all the way to the final.
This year’s Liverpool look stronger for the addition of Daniel Sturridge this month, who appears already to have the makings of a good understanding with Luis Suarez. Much will depend on manager Brendan Rogers selection as he may look to rest the Uruguayan among others for tough league games away at Arsenal and Manchester City next week. However, the Cup remains an important competition for the club, currently lying seventh and four points behind archrivals Everton, and Rogers will still name a strong starting eleven that should certainly be capable of overwhelming a team hovering perilously above the relegation zone in League One and whose only win since Dec 8th was against Nottingham Forest in the previous round. No doubt Oldham will offer a spirited contest, but Liverpool should prevail. By how many will depend on how early they make the first breakthrough.
Sturridge has made an encouraging start to his Liverpool career and was a scorer in the last round, so would be a good pick for the first goal. Those put off by how short Liverpool are priced outright should look at the handicap market, as Liverpool should win by at least two.
