Portland Timbers vs New York Red Bulls Betting Tips

This is a tough match-up between two sides who are both suffering from a dip in form. Portland rattled the woodwork twice at the weekend, yet somehow couldn’t find a way past DC United. The visitors are a strange team, who have started to pick up notable victories on the road this season. That was the first defeat in September for the Timbers, and it shouldn’t provide too much panic amongst supporters. Due to improvements at Providence Park, Portland began the season with twelve consecutive away games, and they are now enjoying a run of home fixtures. Unfortunately, they haven’t been quite as effective as last season in front of their own fans, although they’ve won four of the last seven. One notable thing about the Timbers is that they don’t do many stalemates. They’ve drawn just four of their 29 matches this season with none of their games since mid-July ending all-square.

The Red Bulls were well-beaten at Century Link Field at the weekend, conceding four times to Seattle Sounders, and they must find a way to bounce back. They are sixth in the Eastern Conference, and this was their third consecutive defeat. Although it isn’t a particularly taxing journey, they remain on the road, and that could count against them here. There’s always plenty of entertainment with the NYRB, ten of their 15 away matches have featured three or more goals so far, and they have been particularly prolific in the second half this campaign.

The New Jersey side suffered a 2-0 defeat during their last visit to this stadium, and it’s not a place that they particularly enjoy visiting. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last six games, and have conceded eight times in their last three. There are problems at the back, and it’s hard to see them winning this one.

Portland were fairly unlucky at the weekend, and they should be able to capitalise on home advantage this time around. They have the players to hurt NYRB, and at Evens with Coral, they are worth sticking with. Despite going down at the weekend, they created chances, and only the woodwork denied them.

Two of the last four matches between these sides have ended 3-3, and the way that the visitors are defending, we are expecting a few goals in this tie. Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score would have landed in seven of the last nine away games for Chris Armas’ men, and looks decent enough at 8/11 with William Hill.
