PSV vs Sporting Betting Tips

PSV took their time to find their feet this season, but Mark Van Bommel’s men are starting to fire on all cylinders. It’s already been a lengthy campaign for the Eindhoven outfit, with the club crashing out of the Champions League qualifiers to Basel before overcoming Haugesund and Apollon to cement their place in the Europa League group stage. The Eredivisie outfit kept clean sheets in all four legs of those fixtures, and they also managed a shutout at the weekend against a decent Vitesse outfit.

PSV have really impressed in recent weeks, and since their opening day 1-1 draw with FC Twente, they’ve managed to take maximum points domestically. Unfortunately, they don’t have a great record against Portuguese opposition in Europe, however they have lost just one of seven encounters at home.

It’s never an easy task to overcome PSV at home, and Sporting CP don’t exactly arrive in imperious shape. It’s been a mixed season for the Lisbon outfit, who have already undergone a managerial change this campaign. Marcel Keizer has temporarily been replaced by Leonel Pontes, with the interim coach overseeing the club’s 1-1 draw with Boavista. It was yet more dropped points for the Liga Nos side, who sit fifth in the table, a point behind their opponents at the weekend. Keizer was given his marching orders following an unforgivable 2-3 loss to Rio Ave at home, and they have shown plenty of vulnerabilities so far this season.

At any other time, Sporting would be a value pick in this game. However, at the moment, they cannot be trusted, and their defence is leaky. They are yet to keep a clean sheet this campaign, and were thumped in the Portuguese Super Cup by Benfica. As a result, backing a resurgent PSV at is the way to go here.

Bruma could be worth a look in this market as he graduated from the Sporting CP academy alongside some of the current squad. However, it is Donyell Malen who arrives in form, and although he is favourite in the anytime goalscorer market, he is undoubtedly worth backing here. He joined an elite club of players to have scored five times in an Eredivisie match, and he could continue where he left off. He’s full of confidence and is likely to be on penalty duties as well. He’s 6/4 with Betfair to notch again.
