QPR vs Wigan Preview

QPR are one of the youngest sides in the Championship, and Mark Warburton’s men were always likely to be inconsistent this season. They opened up with an unlikely win at the Bet365, before picking up a valuable point against Huddersfield. This four-point haul was followed by two consecutive defeats, and they must get back to winning ways this weekend. Jordan Hugill has started life at the club fairly well, and he was on the scoresheet against Swansea on Wednesday night, he will be looking to continue his good run of form back in West London. The hosts do tend to fare quite well at Loftus Road, and they did beat the Latics here last season. They’re unbeaten in their last six matches against Paul Cook’s men, and can feel confident of their chances in this one. QPR didn’t help themselves against Bristol City at the weekend, although the Robins are a very good side, and many other teams will come undone agains them this campaign. They were a little sloppy against Swansea three days ago, and Warburton is likely to be concerned that his side are yet to record a clean sheet in four Championship matches.

Wigan were famed for their poor away form last season, and it’s not been much better this time around. The Latics have lost both games, and conceded four without reply so far. Overall, they’ve failed to win 22 of their last 23 away games, and that doesn’t bode well for this trip to West London. They have had an extra day’s rest ahead of this fixture, but they failed to trouble Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, and they must do more going forward. They have also failed to score in any of their last three matches, and although Joe Garner is injured, there should be more than enough firepower to call upon in their squad. Cook’s men are likely to pick up the majority of their points at the DW this season, but they do need to start collecting on the road if they have any hopes of avoiding relegation back to League One. They lost just shy of 70% of their away games last season, and they haven’t shown any signs of turning that poor form around.

QPR vs Wigan Betting Tips

Although QPR have been sloppy in recent games, I feel as though they have enough about them to succeed here. Bristol City and Swansea are both good sides, and they deserved their victories at Loftus Road, but I just can’t see Wigan keeping a clean sheet here. The Latics have a severe bout of travel sickness, and they just cannot be backed on the road. QPR have a great record here against the visitors, and I don’t see that run ending on Saturday afternoon. Mark Warburton’s side have got a long way to go yet, but they should be able to enjoy home comforts against Wigan. QPR to Win is a shade of odds-against at the time of writing.

Jordan Hugill is the favourite in the anytime goalscorer market, but he’s a worthy leader, and he could notch again here. He’s netted 50% of the R’s goals so far this season, and he is a constant threat. He could out-battle the QPR defence here. He’s never lost a game against the Latics, and he’s scored three goals in four matches against Wigan over the last few seasons. He should have his say once more.
