Real Betis have had an up and down preseason with wins over DC United, Queretaro, Raja Casablanca and Las Palmas coming alongside losses to Sheffield United, Puebla and Deportivo. Vallodolid, on the other hand, managed only two wins, over Racing and Sporting Gijon to add to draws against San Jose Earthquakes and Mallorca and losses to Cardiff on penalties, Granada and Brescia.

They have lost defender Calero to Espanyol and have only made 1 permanent signing in Hervas. However, they have managed to get a few good players on loan thanks to their good relationship with Real Madrid along with Sandro from Everton and talented right back Pedro Porro from Manchester City.
