Real Madrid v Barcelona Preview – More Misery Heaped on Barca?

For the sixth time this season, and seventeenth time in the last three seasons, Barca and Real play each other in an El Clasico. This one is being played on Saturday afternoon, meaning that it won’t be on British TV due to the ‘Saturday Blackout’ rule.

Despite all evidence to the contrary, Barcelona are favourites at a best price of 7/5 with Bet Victor, whereas Real can be backed at 83/41 with Pinnacle. A draw can be backed at 52/19, again with Pinnacle.

You may recall that these two teams met on Tuesday at the Nou Camp. And Real absolutely thrashed Barcelona, 3-1. In fact, Barcelona are having a bit of a wobble, following on from the Defeat against Milan in the Champions League, they may be massively clear in the league, but they have lost their air of invincibility – teams believe they can beat Barcelona at the moment, and that state of affairs doesn’t come around often. Real Madrid are hardly setting the world on fire at the moment themselves, but they are finally putting together a run of form in an attempt to reign in City rivals Athletico in the league, they’ve won four of their last five, the blip being the Draw with United in the Champions League.

Getting down to business – both teams have scored in the last TWELVE El Clasico meetings. Ten of the last 11 El Clasico’s have seen over 2.5 goals, and seven of those 11 have seen over 3.5 goals. Barcelona haven’t kept a clean sheet in 12 games. Both teams to score @ 1/2 with Bet365 won’t get you rich, but should be the cornerstone of any Saturday afternoon accumulator that you put on. Over 2.5 goals is available at a short 3/5, but you can get odds against (6/4 with Coral) on over 3.5 goals, which the stats lean towards.

In terms of the outright winners market, I fancy Real to win this one. Barcelona are beatable, Madrid have their tails up, and Xavi amongst others is out for Barcelona. The only worry is that Real may have one eye on the Champions League game against Man U on Tuesday. The 83/41 on offer for the straight Real win appeals, but you can get the odds up into the 3/1 territory by either backing a Real with both teams to score (10/3, Ladbrokes) or a Real win with Ronaldo scoring (11/4, Paddy Power). I’m recommending the former, purely because its better odds – I think that both will happen to be fair.

In terms of first Goalscorer, you’ve only got two options really, Ronnie or Messi. I fancy Ronaldo to open the scoring, and BetFred are not only doing their double delight / hattrick heaven promo, they’ve also go the best odds on him beinf first goals scorer to start with! Back him at 7/2 with BetFred.
