Rotherham vs Lincoln Preview

Rotherham made the perfect start on their return to League One last weekend. The Millers were handed a tricky tie at Kingsmeadow, but the new-look Millers overcame a few dubious moments to emerge 2-1 winners in West London. Paul Warne’s hard-working side host their first game of the season at the New York Stadium, and they’ll be feeling confidence coming into this game against the Imps. They certainly have a good record against Lincoln having beaten them on 41 occasions (more than any other side), but any side that is managed by the Cowleys is always tough to beat. Millers fans will have been pleased to have seen £500,000 recruit Freddie Ladapo get off the mark at the first attempt, and the former Plymouth man looked lively throughout. Although they lost some key players over the summer, Rotherham looked like a team that has already gelled, and they clocked up an XG rating of 1.8, which isn’t bad for an away side. Rotherham are expected to be up there this season, and they looked like promotion candidates based on last week’s performance. The only downside was their failure to keep a clean sheet.

Lincoln got off to the perfect start with a comfortable 2-0 win over Accrington at Sincil Bank. The Imps always looked in control of the game, and the new signings appear to have settled in well. They showed they can mix it up with Joe Morrell impressing throughout. The hosts were neat and tidy in possession, and even though it was John Akinde who wrapped things up from the penalty spot, they look like a side who have developed well over the course of the summer. They are dark horses for promotion, and on that evidence, they are going to be extremely difficult to beat at home. Last season, they lost just five times on the road, and only failed to score four times on their travels. They will offer an aeriel threat once again, but they also have a number of skillful midfielders who can help them get something from this encounter. They haven’t won their first two games in the EFL since the early 1950s, so a victory here would help them make history.

Rotherham vs Lincoln Betting Tips

One thing that was noticeable from the opening weekend performances is that these two sides will create plenty of chances each week. Both recorded well on the XG scale, and even if you don’t put much stock into that, its difficult to imagine this being a boring 90 minutes. Rotherham are lively in the final third, whilst Lincoln can create plenty of chances in all areas of the pitch. The Imps only failed to score four times on the road last season, whilst they managed just eight clean sheets. Although the impressive Clark Robertson remains at the club, the Millers have a number of new defensive recruits, and they are liable to concede in this one. Both Teams to Score? Yes looks the best option in this one.

Freddie Ladapo looked very lively last weekend, and the forward is a confidence player. He’ll be pleased to be off the mark, and he looks likeliest to find the net, and double his tally. He’ll also be keen to get off the mark in front of his own fans. He’s 15/8 to make it two from two.
