Simone Inzaghi described Monday’s result as a “very important win” and he was delighted with his side’s solid, determined performance. They remain within spitting distance of the top four and three points here would propel them above Inter and into the Europa League spots. They’ve been a little inconsistent so far this season and they’ve won just one of their last five home matches but they have faced some tough opposition during that run. They’ve already beaten SPAL, Frosinone, Cagliari and Genoa at this ground and they will be expected to get the better of Empoli. They may have kept a clean sheet on Monday night but shutouts are few and far between and Empoli have been handy in front of goal recently. The visitors have shipped five goals in their last two matches and have conceded the just highest in the league (44). There could be plenty of goals in this one. The away side have only failed to score on six occasions this campaign with just two of those blanks being fired since October 6th. Empoli’s defence is a real worry. They are slowly slipping back towards Serie B and it’s their lack of organisation which is causing major problems. They conceded three times to Genoa, a side who had previously failed to find the net in their last three outings and they conceded a further two goals at home to bottom club, Chievo. This is a quick turnaround for Lazio but they don’t have a Serie A game until Feb 23rd after this and even though there are fitness doubts about some their players, they should have enough to bag a few goals here. Lazio have hit three goals on three occasions at Stadio Olimpico this season and they’ve all been against sides in the bottom half. Each of that trio have conceded fewer goals than Empoli and they all sit above them in the table. Inzaghi spoke post-match about his side’s quick turnaround and suggested that there may be a few late fitness tests ahead of this game. Marco Parolo is suspended and won’t feature whilst Luis Alberto felt a twinge on Monday night and may be rested as a precaution. Ciro Immobile is also not quite fully fit but he is likely to feature in some capacity. He did confirm that Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will start this game and he’s been scoring plenty of goals in front of the home fans recently.
