Roma vs Napoli predictions and betting tips for this Sunday afternoon’s Serie A clash on March 31st with an anytime goalscorer tip and goals prediction included.
There’s a fascinating Serie A clash on Sunday afternoon as Claudio Ranieri’s Roma take on high-flying Napoli. The former Leicester boss struggled to get a tune out of his side two weeks ago, as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at SPAL. There’s also been reports of disharmony in the ranks, and that doesn’t bode well for this important fixture. Napoli look far more assured, and organised under Carlo Ancelotti, and will fancy their chances of taking all three points from this game. See our Roma vs Napoli predictions below.
The phrase ‘out of the frying pan and into the fire’ springs to mind when analysing Claudio Ranieri’s move from Fulham to Stadio Olimpico. The Italian has inherited an ageing squad, and they are currently amidst an injury crisis. After their 2-1 loss to SPAL, reports surfaced of Edin Dzeko and Stephen El Shaarawy coming to blows in the changing rooms, and that can’t be good for team spirit. Ranieri said his side need to be better tactically after that defeat, and his post-match quotes don’t exactly fill Giallorossi fans full of confidence. In contrast, all is calm in Naples. The Partenopei may only have won one of their last four away games, but they have visited the San Siro and the Artemio Franchi in that run, and they will fancy their chances in this game. They’ve conceded just 12 times on the road this season, and they will look to keep things tight here. Roma have lost just once at home all season, but they haven’t been firing on all cylinders, and they will be without Alessandro Florenzi, who picked up an injury on International duty, and he’ll join Javier Pastore and Daniele De Rossi on the sidelines. Napoli can be backed at around 8/13 on the double chance market, which is perfectly backable, but we’re going for an away win. It’s an attractive price, and it’s the first of our Serie A predictions for Sunday afternoon.
Napoli have been impressively resolute at the back, and have conceded just two goals in their last five away games. They will look to thwart Roma, and keep it tight throughout. It finished 0-1 last time these two sides met at this ground, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this match end in a similar outcome. Roma are amongst the highest home scorers in the division, but many of their goals came against Genoa, Sampdoria and Frosinone, and this will be a tougher task. Ranieri lambasted his side’s finishing in their defeat to SPAL, and they will need to be at their clinical best in this game. Napoli don’t do many high-scoring games on the road, and I expect this one to be managed by the visited. Under 2.5 Goals is the second of our betting tips for Sunday afternoon.
Napoli have been sharing the goals around in recent games, but the majority of their strikes in away games have come from prolific pole Arkadiusz Milik. He’s one of the deadliest players in the Italian top flight, and he has scored on a regular basis this campaign. He netted twice against Parma, and he’s also scored against some of the bigger sides in the division. He’s also taken up free-kick duty this season, and Roma will have to be careful not to give too many fouls away around the edge of the area. Milik was always likely to be the favourite in the anytime goalscorer market, but it is perfectly understandable, and he’s the third of our Roma vs Napoli predictions for this afternoon.
Napoli may be the visitors, but they’ve been priced up as the favourites for this tie. Carlo Ancellotti’s side are sat in second, and they’ve been terrific on their travels this campaign. They can be backed at 11/8 for this tie. Roma need to be bounce back from their disappointing defeat to SPAL, and can be backed at 2/1 to get back to winning ways. It’s 12/5 for the game to end all-square.
We’re not expecting many goals in this game, but there is plenty of attacking talent on show here. It’s 4/5 for Over 2.5 Goals in this tie, whilst it’s a slightly bigger price of Evens for Over 2.5 Goals.
Arkadiusz Milik is the favourite in the first goalscorer market, and he is 9/2 to open the scoring in this one. He is followed by Edin Dzeko, who can be backed at 5s. Lorenzo Insigne was on the scoresheet in Napoli’s last away victory, and he can be backed at 5/1, the same price as Dries Mertens.
