Sheffield Wednesday vs Luton

Luton may have picked up just a single point from their opening three games, but they’ve certainly been very entertaining to watch. Following on from their 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough, they lost 2-1 at Cardiff, before sticking three past Ipswich in the EFL Cup. At the weekend, they surrendered a 1-0 lead, to lose 2-1 at West Brom. So far, each of their three matches have featured three or more goals, and they take on a Sheffield Wednesday side who look dangerous going forward. The Owls were left frustrated at the weekend, as they couldn’t find a way past a dogged and determined Millwall side. They had 70% possession, and 21 shots (9 on target), but still couldn’t find a way past Bartosz Bialkowski. Luton’s defence is unlikely to offer such resistance, and they may find it much easier to get on the score-sheet. The Owls look much better under Lee Bullen, and they have plenty of creativity from wide areas. This could be a very entertaining watch.

Southend vs Peterborough

Southend have made an extremely poor start to the campaign, and unfortunately for Shrimpers fans – the fixtures don’t come any easier. They’ve had trouble at the back with Lincoln netting four goals on Saturday. They allowed the Imps 14 shots (5 of which were on target), and they took full advantage. Southend managed three shots on target themselves, but there is a clear lack of creativity in the side. They’ve scored just once so far, and were defeated 3-1 in their only previous outing at Roots Hall. Blackpool raced into a three-goal lead, and although Southend racked up 18 shots, they were unable to hit the target more than once. They face a Peterborough side who are fresh from picking up their first point of the season. They have a potent strikeforce, who should enjoy playing against this Southend defence. Mo Eisa is off the mark whilst Ivan Toney already has two. Seven of Posh’s 12 shots were on target at the weekend, and they should have a real go here. Unfortunately, they’ve not managed to keep a clean sheet yet.

Crawley vs Crewe

Crawley have had a brilliant start to the campaign, and Gabriele Cioffi’s side have been nothing short of excellent. The Red Devils were tipped to struggle, but they’ve assembled a good young side, who are extremely lively in the final third. They out-shot Scunthorpe 14-9, with Beryly Lubala scoring once again. The 21-year old is averaging a goal every 78 minutes, and is likely to play a big part here. Crawley saw eight of their 14 shots land on target, and they managed 20 shots in their previous home clash with Salford City. They are certainly going to go for the jugular here, and Crewe will need to be at their defensive best. Crewe beat Plymouth at the weekend, and won their previous away game at Oldham. They won’t have it all their own way, but they should play their part in an entertaining clash.

Swindon vs Northampton

Swindon have been one the best sides in League Two this season, and the addition of Eoin Doyle will certainly help their attacking output. The Robins didn’t equalise until the 88th minute, but they did have 16 shots in that game, and they deserved something from the game. Their previous home match ended 3-2 with Richie Wellen’s side firing on all cylinders at the County Ground. They had several chances in that game, and they should have won far more comfortably in the end. They will fancy their chances against a Northampton side, who are really struggling for consistency. Andy Williams’ glaring miss was just one of several fluffed chances, and they need to start converting if they are to climb the table. They’ve scored just two goals so far, but Swindon’s defence is far from secure. Expect a few goals in this one.
