Tunisia vs Nigeria Preview

Tunisia have had a mixed tournament after failing to win a group game and narrowly qualifying ahead of Angola and Mauritania. They then went on to knock out Ghana via penalties to reach the Quarter Finals. Three second-half goals saw off Madagascar before their toughest test against Senegal. The dramatic semi final could have gone either way in truth. Senegal had the better first half, hitting the post and rounding the keeper on one occasion. Tunisia missed a late penalty before their opponents did the same. In the end, a goalkeeping error leading to an own goal was all that separated the two teams.

Nigeria’s progression to the Semi-Finals was also fraught with difficulty. Their group games included 1-0 wins over Burundi and Guinea before a shock defeat to Madagascar. Tournament top goal scorer Odion Ighalo helped see off holders, Cameroon in the first knock out round. An 89th-minute winner in the quarters preceded an agonising late goal in the Semi. Riyad Mahrez’s 95th-minute free-kick broke Nigerian hearts as they crashed out to Algeria.

Tunisia vs Nigeria Betting Tips

Neither side are strangers to the Third Place Play-Off – Nigeria have finished 3rd seven times, whilst Tunisia have taken the bronze medal once, losing twice. It’s a difficult match to call but we fancy the Super Eagles to make it 8 out of 8.

Tunisia’s Wahbi Khazri is a dangerous set-piece specialist who leads the way in chance creation at the AFCONs. If Tunisia are to score expect him to be involved. Third Place Play-offs have a reputation for being high scoring and we expect this to be no different. and over 2.5 goals at 6/4.

Tunisia will be looking to seal their best finish in 23 years whilst Odion Ighalo will be keen to secure the golden boot. Nigeria will also be confident of scoring having averaged 2 goals a game in knockout stages. We’re backing both teams to score at 21/20
