There’s a Midlands derby taking place tonight  in front of the TV cameras, and there is plenty riding on this always-fiercely contested clash. The Baggies, under caretaker boss James Shan have been exceptional since Darren Moore’s departure, but they will face a tough test against a Birmingham who have been dragged into the relegation battle courtesy of their points deduction. See our West Brom vs Birmingham predictions below.

West Brom vs Birmingham Preview

Despite sitting fourth in the table, this West Brom squad could be accused of underperforming this season, and Darren Moore paid the price for his side’s wayward finishing against bottom club Ipswich at the beginning of the month. Albion have left James Shan in charge of the club, and he is to remain in place until the end of the campaign.

The Under 23 coach has got off to a perfect start, overseeing a 3-0 win at home to Swansea, and a 1-0 victory at Griffin Park. These two results are very impressive, and they were both achieved with clean sheets. Only five sides have left Brentford with all three points, and WBA became the first side since December 8th to beat the Bees in their own backyard. There is plenty of talent at Shan’s disposal, and it was pleasing to see him give a start to young Kyle Edwards a fortnight ago. He hasn’t been afraid to mix it up, and we may see some further changes ahead of this tie.

Birmingham have been in the news for the wrong reasons over the International Break with the Blues being deducted nine points for their vastly overspending. It leaves them on 41 points, and whilst realistically, they should have enough to survive, it has left them nervously glancing over their shoulders.

It doesn’t help the deduction comes at a time when the sides is desperately out-of-form, and Garry Monk must find a way of instilling some confidence back into his side. I’m wary of writing off the Blues, as they’ve put in some decent away performances this season, most notably at Ashton Gate, but they seem to have lost their way. They face West Brom at a time when the Baggies appear to have rediscovered their mojo, and I am happy to take the odds-on quotes about the hosts. West Brom Win is the first of our West Brom vs Birmingham betting tips for Friday night.

West Brom vs Birmingham Goals Prediction

I expected Birmingham to score at both Hull and Preston, but they couldn’t find the target, and their shooting boots appear to have eluded them in recent weeks. Perhaps the International Break will help freshen them up here. They haven’t met at the Hawthorns since 2010, with each of the last two meetings taking place at St.Andrews, and there wasn’t much between the pair in either fixture. 2-3 Goals exactly could be the best way to play this game. It means we aren’t reliant on Birmingham scoring a goal, but WBA should be able to bag a couple at least in this clash. It would have landed in two of Brum’s last three away games, and in both of West Brom’s last two home matches. 2-3 Goals Exactly is the second of our West Brom vs Birmingham predictions today.

West Brom vs Birmingham Anytime Goalscorer Betting Tip

West Brom have been spreading the goals around with even Chris Brunt getting in on the act recently. However, Jay Rodriguez has been their most consistent goalscorer throughout the campaign. He has 18 in the league, compared to Dwight Gayle’s 16, and with little between them in the anytime goalscorer market, I’d always favour the designated penalty taker. Rodriguez has also in netted in three of Albion’s last five home matches, and although he sometimes paints the image of being fairly uninterested, the defenders cannot afford to take their eyes off the former Burnley man. He could make the difference in this game, and is worth backing. Jay Rodriguez to Score Anytime is the third of our West Brom vs Birmingham predictions.

West Brom vs Birmingham Betting Odds

West Brom are predictably going to go offer as the favourites for this game, and can be backed at 3/4. Both sides need the points, and neither side will fancy losing this Midlands clash. The draw is priced at 11/4, whilst Birmingham are available at 10/3 to cause a mini-upset here. The Blues have shown that they can be very unpredictable on the road this season.

The bookies can’t decide which way this match goes in terms of the goals. They’ve priced Over 2.5 and Under 2.5 Goals up at 10/11 for the pair. Anyone fancying a cagey contest can back Under 1.5 Goals at 5/2.

Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez are inseparable at the top of the first goalscorer market, with the pair available at 7/2 to net the opener. Hal Robson Kanu, who hasn’t had much game time recently is next in the betting at 11/2, whilst Kyle Edwards who was on the scoresheet against Brentford is 13/2. Che Adams is always a threat, and he can be backed at 5/1.
