Betting preview and free football tips for West Ham vs Sunderland on Saturday 21st Marh 2015 with Premier League betting tips.
Sunderland travel to London having been completely humiliated in front of their own fans against Aston Villa. Gus Poyet was unsurprisingly relieved of his duties following the 4-0 trouncing in which a number of fans attempted to storm the dugout during the match. Dick Advocaat has been swiftly appointed as manager, but having little experience with relegation scraps, will the task prove too much for the Dutchman?
Words cannot accurately describe how poor Sunderland’s first half display against Aston Villa was last weekend. There was no desire, no passion, and most worryingly of all; no belief. They improved in the second half, but by then Villa had taken their foot off the gas and looked to see out the game. This clash summed up the uplifting effect a new manager can bring to a struggling team in a nutshell. Sherwood had his players fired up and raring to go, whilst Sunderland’s appeared bored, uninspired and lacking any kind of confidence. It is clear that a change in management will do them good, but is it too little, too late? Advocaat brings with him a wealth of experience, but has never managed in the Premier League and has never been in a relegation situation so late on in the season. A manager’s first game in charge is always a difficult one to predict, but Sunderland’s confidence looked shot and will surely take some time to regain.
The Black Cats sit just one point above the relegation zone and are well and truly locked in a relegation scrap once again. They have amassed just six points from 10 games this year and unless Advocaat can inspire these players to produce the kind of quality that they are capable of, then the North East side will be playing Championship football come next season.
West Ham are on the decline after an impressive first half to the season. They have just one win in 2015 and have lost their last three on the spin. However, unlike Sunderland, The Hammers are all but safe from relegation and sit in 10th place with 39 points. Given both team’s poor form and the potential rallying factor that Sunderland’s new boss will bring, this game is a tough one to predict in our betting preview for West Ham v Sunderland.
Although Allardyce’s side have not been great lately, their tough run of fixtures has not helped; having played Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Southampton, Man Utd and Liverpool in their previous games. West Ham’s form against teams positioned below them must be taken into account for the visit of Sunderland. In their last 20 home games against teams positioned below them in the table, West Ham have won 13, drawn six and lost just one of these matches.
Given just how poor Sunderland were in their last match, and despite the best efforts of the new gaffer, I don't think it will be a quick fix solution. Even Tim Sherwood at Villa needed a couple of matches to get his ideas fully across despite his obvious thrust and enthusiasm. I feel that Advocaat’s lack of Premier League experience as well as the unfamiliarity of a relegation scrap will prove a step too far. I think West Ham will use this game to get their results back on track and will brush aside Sunderland.
Therefore, my first West Ham v Sunderland football betting prediction is for West Ham to win; odds of 17/20 can be found with William Hill.
I feel that after last week’s debacle, Advocaat will be intent on shoring up his defence before the trip to London. They will be desperate to maintain a clean sheet to avenge their disastrous performance against Villa, but ultimately I envisage a low scoring defeat for Sunderland against West Ham.
Therefore my second West Ham v Sunderland bet tip is for there to be under 2.5 goals; odds of 4/5 can be found with Ladbrokes.
I feel West Ham are likely to nick it by the odd goal and so my third football betting tip is for West Ham to win 1-0. Odds of 6/1 can be found with Bet365.
