The Monday night evening game sees Stoke travel to West Ham United, in the battle of the percentage ball exponents. This will probably not be pretty.
West Ham are the favourites at a best price of 12/11 with Pinncale, whereas the draw can be backed at 12/5 with bet365. A Stoke win is available at 25/8, also with Pinnacle. We all know that football will be the real winner here though.
If there’s been the nagging feeling that you’ve seen West Ham United an awful lot this season, and you’re not sure why, relax, you’re not going mad. Monday night will be West Ham’s seventh time on the TV already this season, and they are on again next Sunday against Spurs – they will pass double figures long before Christmas. Now I admire the job that Allardyce has done at West Ham – he’s made them a solid Premiership football team, currently sitting in 6th place in the Premier League. They are already half way to the required points target required for survival, and that was their aim at the start of the season. But ‘admire’ does not mean the same thing as ‘enjoy’ – in West Ham’s recent victory over Newcastle (admirable, BTW…) the most frequent passing combination was Jääskeläinen to Carroll. I’m not sure that whacking them on TV at any given opportunity was the brightest move, and whichever executive at Sky thought that West Ham vs Stoke was a prime candidate for Monday night football should be fired on the spot.
West Ham should win this. Stoke are awful away from home (haven’t won any of their last 15 away games), and are struggling to score full stop. West Ham have only lost once at home all season. Better than evens for a home win looks a very respectable bet, and I’d advise that you back it. I’m also advising a West Ham win to nil as a secondary bet, which is available at a very generous 9/4 with Bet365 – West Ham have already kept six clean sheets this season, and Stoke have failed to score in three of their last four away games.
Despite West Ham’s ‘agricultural’ style of play, Andy Carroll is yet to score for West Ham United. In fact, he’s yet to score for anyone this season, despite making eleven appearances. What he is quite good at though, is what will forever be known as the ‘Heskey Role’ – he’s a striker that doesn't score, but brings other players into the game more, and they feed off his knock downs and work rate. Kevin Nolan has benefited the most from this, and has scored five times already in the league this season. Nolan is 9/4 to score anytime with Bet365.
