Manchester City vs Chelsea predictions, betting tips and preview for the Premier League fixture on Sunday 10th February 2019. The hosts are back on top of the table following their victory over Everton in midweek but with Liverpool at home to Bournemouth, there’s no room for error for City.
A lot of people pinpoint Chelsea’s victory over the Premier League champions earlier in the season as the catalyst for their mini slump, but Pep Guardiola’s men look very much back on the road to recovery as we enter the business end of the season.

At this stage, getting the three points in the bag is the only thing that really matters to clubs vying for silverware. And Manchester City, for all their silky brilliance earlier in the season, are now very much in a position where securing a victory in any fashion is infinitely more important than the accompanying performance.
City haven’t really thumped anyone of late, save for their 5-0 demolition of Burnley last month, but they’re quietly going about their work and racking points up at this crucial stage of the campaign. I think their match against Chelsea could be similar to recent encounters against Everton and Arsenal, with a closely fought affair ultimately culminating in a home win. That belief prompted me to search for a match result and total goals combo befitting of that theory – and I’m pleased to report there’s some value! You can get 7/5 on the Citizens winning but fewer than 3.5 goals being scored in the match, meaning 1-0, 2-0, 2-1 and 3-0 score lines are all winning permutations of an often popular market.
For all the money spent by City since the revolutionary investment that turned them into a footballing powerhouse, there’s arguably one signing that still stands out as value for money. I am of course talking about the acquisition of Sergio Aguero, who is the club’s all-time top scorer and showing no signs of slowing down just yet. The Argentinian is currently third in this season’s goal scoring charts and boasts the best goals-to-minutes ratio of any player in the entire league. That will of course come as absolutely no surprise to anyone who has even the slightest bit of knowledge about Aguero’s career, but should act as a huge plus point for anyone looking to back him to score at some stage when City take on Chelsea. He’s evens to do so.
Only one team has managed to escape the Etihad without losing this season, with Crystal Palace pulling off a genuine shock when they beat Manchester City 3-2 on their own patch. The champions have won every other home league match which doesn’t bode particularly well for Chelsea. True, the Londoners saw off City at Stamford Bridge before Christmas but it’s an entirely different task away from home.
I can’t say I fancy The Blues here and I’m clearly not alone. They’re priced up between 5/1 and 6/1 with most firms to head south with three points to show for their efforts, which is as long a price as they’ve been all season. If City turn up and allow their quality to show, it could be a very long afternoon indeed for Sarri’s men. You can get 7/2 on the Mancunians winning either 2-0 or 3-0, which would be somewhat reflective of most of their recent victories.
