Premier League Betting Tips for Today’s Fixtures (16/07/20)

Aston Villa are in desperate need of points against Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton. Leicester look to cling on to a Champions League spot against European hopefuls Sheffield United. Meanwhile, Manchester United are aiming to close the gap against an out-of-form Crystal Palace.

Villa can close the gap to just one point with two games remaining if they can overcome Everton at Goodison Park. Only goal difference separates Leicester and Manchester United heading into their respective fixtures. Read today’s Premier League predictions and betting tips below.

 

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United Predictions

Manchester United to Win to Nil – 11/10 at bet365.

Crystal Place have been in woeful form since the restart. The Eagles have lost five on the bounce since beating Bournemouth, failing to score in four of those. Most recently, Roy Hodgson’s side lost 2-0 to relegation-threatened Aston Villa after a dubious VAR decision ruled out a goal for Mamadou Sakho.

Manchester United, by contrast, have been in excellent form, extending their long unbeaten streak despite conceding a 96^th minute equaliser last time out. The 2-2 draw with Southampton means the Red Devils are now eleven league games without a loss.

United haven’t failed to register since early February, scoring two or more in eight of their last ten and scoring three or more in four of their last five. Each of their last five Premier League games has seen over 2.5 goals.

With nothing left to play for and a severe lack of form, Crystal Palace are likely to see a sixth successive defeat as Manchester United continue their push for the top four. A win to nil looks likely, especially given United seven clean sheets in their last 11 games.

 

Leicester vs Sheffield United Predictions

Leicester started well against Bournemouth and could have taken a healthy lead into the break. Sadly for Leicester fans, their second-half capitulation saw them suffer their heaviest loss since a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool. As a result, Brendan Rodgers’ side missed the chance to retake third and sit level on points with Manchester United.

Sheffield United had a far better experience last time out, winning 3-0 against Chelsea despite having under 25% possession. The Blades could close the gap on the top four to just two points should they win here and other results go their way.

The reverse fixture ended 2-1 to Leicester all the way back in August. It remains the Foxes’ only victory against a current top seven side. Meanwhile, Sheffield United have picked up two wins and three draws against sides currently above them in the Premier League table.

The Blades are unbeaten in four and look more than capable of keeping out a Leicester side who have failed to score more than one goal in five of their six games since the restart.

 

Everton vs Aston Villa Predictions

Everton haven’t had the strongest of restarts. The Toffees have scored just four goals in six games, winning two, drawing two and losing two. They have two wins in nine and have failed to score in two of their last three. A 3-0 loss to Wolves keeps them in the bottom half, five points behind Burnley.

Aston Villa picked up a crucial three points against Crystal Palace to give themselves a fighting chance of survival. Villa had gone ten games without a win but have now picked up five points since the restart. Their four defeats in that period have all come against top-six opposition.

Four of Aston Villa’s last five games have seen fewer than 2.5 goals. Everton’s previously mentioned poor goals return since the restart also points towards a low scoring game.

 

Southampton vs Brighton Predictions

Southampton grabbed a last-gasp equaliser against Manchester United to make it four games unbeaten in the league. The Saints have lost just one of their six fixtures since the restart, scoring ten in six. Results against Manchester City and Manchester United prove that Southampton have not taken their foot off the gas.

Brighton looked home and dry and should still be safe but the gap to the relegation zone has been cut to five with three to play. The Seagulls have lost back-to-back games, conceding eight and scoring one, albeit against the top two sides in the country. A win here could guarantee safety if other results go their way.

Southampton are the side in better form and have been scoring rather well recently. Brighton have conceded three or more in three of the last four and have only managed four in total since the restart. The Saints look the more likely victors here.
