Tottenham vs Watford predictions and betting tips for Wednesday’s Premier League fixture at Wembley. A few weeks ago this would have looked a formality but things change quickly in football, making this one of the week’s most intriguing clashes.
Spurs fans will be hopeful of a positive result on Wednesday having witnessed their side get dumped out of both domestic cup competitions in the space of three days. Watford, though, are on a bit of a roll and have not tasted defeat since the turn of the year.
From a betting perspective at least, this match may not be as a straightforward a proposition as you would have imagined when the season kicked off in August. Spurs are currently floundering and have lost three of their last four outings, which will be of huge concern to Mauricio Pochettino. Injuries have contrived to hamper Tottenham’s season at arguably its most crucial point so far, but the visit of The Hornets gives them a chance to get their campaign back on track. Far from a foregone conclusion, but something just feels right about backing the home side here. They’re 8/11 to take a much-needed three points.
It’s easy to put Tottenham’s recent tribulations down to the absence of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min. And while the two Englishmen will be out of action until at least March, Son’s return from Asia Cup action will be a timely boost to both his teammates and supporters. The expectation is that Son will go straight into the team against Watford and who would be surprised if he repaid Pochettino’s faith with a goal or two? The South Korean is 7/4 to notch anytime here which looks a fantastic price based on his contribution up until this point.
You can sense the tension in the stands with Spurs going through their current sticky patch, so fans will be hoping for an early goal to settle their nerves. It certainly won’t be easy, and you wouldn’t be surprised if Watford gave them a scare or two, but over 90 minutes I’m expecting the Londoners to get the job done. A saving grace for Spurs could be their opponents’ failure to convert many away matches into wins, but they’ve certainly got enough quality to make things difficult. A narrow 2-1 victory seems as likely a result as any and would go a little way towards repairing the damage of the past fortnight or so.
Tottenham to win – 4/6
Draw – 7/2
Watford to win – 5/1
Watford beat Spurs when these two met earlier in the season so Troy Deeney and co will certainly have confidence that they can cause another so-called upset here. They also clashed in the Carabao Cup, which resulted in a 2-2 draw, so all the signs suggest that a both teams to score inclusion could pay dividends.
With that said, the visitors have only triumphed over Spurs on eight occasions in almost fifty meetings. If history is any indicator then Tottenham really should – and must – turn up on Wednesday. If not, Champions League football next season could begin to slip out of their grasp.
