Thursday’s Horse Racing Tips – The Best 5 Selections on the Cards
For today’s horse racing tips we have a brand new tipster on the team, as Anthony takes a look at the Thursday cards from Ayr, Pontefract and Chelmsford.
The selections start with a NAP in the 2.30pm at Ayr and the final selection comes from the Thursday evening card at Chelmsford. You could add all of these betting tips into a lucky 31 or pick and choose the bets you like the look of the most. Ayr 2.30pm
My first selection comes up at 2.30pm and it’s a Class 6 handicap contest over 1m at Ayr. This is a wide-open betting market here but I like the look of the aptly-named and in-form Ayr Poet (4/1) NAP.
Jim Goldie’s charge is a course-and-distance winner and could not be in better form after backing up his success at the circuit with a comfortable victory at Hamilton last time out. Kevin Stott takes the ride and he’s hit a purple patch, having bagged a treble at Beverley yesterday.
Ayr 3.00pm
My next selection is in the next race at Ayr and I fancy the chances of the John Quinn-trained First Impression (8/1) in this Class Two affair. I believe the main danger to the selection will be the Goldophin-owned Dubai Icon, although I’m hoping the New Approach gelding will need the run after last turning out at Meydan in February where he did show promise.
First Impression is taking a step up in class but it’s worth noting the third horse last time out was just more than three lengths behind the selection. I get the impression our selection wasn’t given too much of a hard time once already beaten and, with Ben Curtis booked, there’s room for improvement.
The current going description at Ayr is good to soft. The son of Make Believe has proven form with juice in the ground, having delivered a victory and finished second on this surface previously. Those triumphs were at today’s distance of 1m 2f I think all signs point to a positive run.
Pontefract 3.20pm
The next selection comes in the 3.20pm at Pontefract which is a Class 4 contest over 1m 2f. I like the look of the Mark Johnston-trained Homespin (7/1). The selection’s previous turf outings since the return of racing have been less than impressive – albeit at a much shorter distance.
The three-year-old gelding appreciated the step up in trip last time out and has been operating at a higher level. I’m hoping the drop-in class will mean Homespin has too much for his rivals here.
Ayr 4.30pm
The 4.30pm at Ayr over 7f is not the strongest of contests and looks wide open. I’m taking a chance on the experienced Tommy G (7/1) having a going day. Despite falling out the stalls at Doncaster last time out, the selection regained his composure to finish a promising fourth despite also being hampered in the final furlong.
There’s definitely a win in this horse, especially whilst carrying bottom weight today. Trainer Jim Goldie has had two winners out of his last five runners so it appears the yard is returning to form.
Chelmsford 7.00pm
My final selection comes in the 7pm at Chelmsford which is a Class 6 contest over 1m. The consistent Act of Magic will prove popular with the punters here, having been knocking on the door with three consecutive second-place finishes. While Act of Magic currently leads the market, I am going to side with the filly Sonnetina (11/4) NB.
She was impressive last time out over today’s distance at Bath, with the front three going clear of the field. There were certainly signs that there’s more of improvement left and I am confident of a strong run.
