Cheltenham Festival 2020 Ante-Post Tips for a Lucky 15

Cheltenham tips 2020

The 2020 Cheltenham Festival is not far away now and following the Dublin Racing Festival, there are some changes to the betting for the ante-post Festival odds, see our Cheltenham lucky 15 ante-post tips below.

Delta Work won the Irish Gold Cup and confirmed the form with Presenting Percy and Kemboy from the Saville’s Chase earlier in the season, but is he a worthy bet for the Cheltenham Gold Cup? Will Faugheen win at Cheltenham and what about the big Engish challengers? Read our four Cheltenham Festival 2020 ante-post tips below.

Stayers Hurdle Tip – Paisley Park

The first selection to cover is many people’s banker for Cheltenham 2020, Paisley Park. The reigning Champion will go back to Prestbury Park to defend his crown and at this moment in time, it’s hard to see what beats him. He’s got form at the course and has won his two races to this point, including at Cheltenham last time out, beating Summerville Boy by over a length. Although nothing is every a certainty at the Festival, Paisley Park currently looks the banker of the meeting at just below Evens, and a relatively easy first selection for the lucky 15.

Champion Chase Tip – Altior

One of the Dublin Racing Festival’s most impressive winners was Chacun Pour Soi and he’s now a top price 4/1 for Wednesday’s Champion Chase. The Willie Mullins trained horse saw off Min to deny him a third straight win in the race, and the handicapper was impressed by the performance. Chacun is now rated 176 now, alongside Cyrname as the joint highest-rated chaser in training.

However, he is likely to face Defi De Seuil and Altior in the Champion Chase, and if we get Altior back to his best on Wednesday 11th March, then the superstar will be hard to beat. Nicky Henderson has reported that Altior is flying at home and he is set to race this coming weekend, so expect his current odds of 3/1 to win the Champion Chase to shrink if he puts in an impressive display.

Arkle Chase Tip – Fakir Doudairies

This is a bit of a punt because the horse did not run at Leopardstown as expected. He was pulled out of the race late on but his main rival in that race, Notebook, got the win. It would have been interesting to see if Fakir could have turned around the form from Boxing Day but the rematch wasn’t to be. Now we have to wait until the Cheltenham Festival to hopefully see the two reoppose.

Notebook beat Cash Back into second in what looked a decent renewal, but I get the impression Fakir Doudairies would have gone very close if he was allowed to take his chance. Notebook stayed on well in the weekend race but Leapordstown is a very flat track compared to Cheltenham, and in the Ballymore last season he failed to show after going off 50/1. Fakir will now head straight to Cheltenham and at 6/1, he might be a decent bet against the favourite.

Gold Cup Tip – Santini

Delta Work was cut from 8/1 into 4/1 after his win in the Irish Gold Cup last weekend, and having had two of his expected rivals behind him for the second time, that form looks strong despite it being on a very different track. However, last year’s winner Al Boum Photo didn’t race in the Irish Gold Cup, and neither did the very highly rated Santini. After being hyped up as a top-class horse for 2019, he finished second in the RSA Chase, with Delta Work third. The Gold Cup would have always been the plan for the 2020 season and following wind surgery, he came back to form on his only run this season, winning at Cheltenham in the Paddy Power Chase.

All roads now lead to the feature race and I’m hoping Santini can live up to expectations for Nicky Henderson and complete the 4-time for our Cheltenham Festival 2020 lucky 15 ante-post tip.
