Cheltenham Tips 2020 – Colin Tizzards’s Runners & Best Chances

Cheltenham tips 2020

Today’s Cheltenham tips come from the Colin Tizzard stable and we have taken a look at some of their best chances of the week, including picking out the latest odds and any key quotes.

Joe Tizzard spoke with Sporting Life recently and gave an update on their intended Cheltenham Festival 2020 runners; including Lostintranslation in the Gold Cup, Fiddlerontheroof in the Supreme, and The Big Breakaway in the  Ballymore plus a few more.

Fiddlerontheroof – Sky Bet Supreme Novices Hurdle Tuesday 1.30

“He’ll run a Big race”

Colin Tizzards 6 year old bolted up in the Grade 1 Tolworth last time out at Sandown and has a very progressive profile. 2 from 4 over timber, he was beaten by decent horses on 2 occasions, including Ante Post Albert Bartlett fav “Thyme Hill”. He is held in high regard by the Tizzards and they are looking forward to running him in the opening race.

“He’s a lovely horse, a Grade 1 winner last time and  his form is rock solid”

A winner on soft and 2nd on good ground, whatever the ground conditions he will not be inconvenienced. Currently trading around the 8/1 mark he could represent decent value in the opener.

“He can handle soft ground, he’s a strong staying 2 miler, we bought him with a reputation and he’s done everything right, he can run a big race in it”.

The Big Breakaway – Ballymore Novices Hurdle Wednesday 1.30

“Mighty Impressive”

A €360,000 purchase from the Irish point field, he has looked a monster in his 2 starts for the Tizzard’s this season, hosing up with the minimum of fuss on both occasions and he looks to have a huge future.

“He’s only had a couple of runs for us but he’s been mighty impressive both times, he just lacks a bit of experience but he’s a gorgeous young horse and 2 and a half is the right trip at the moment”.

He faces stern opposition here in the shape of the unbeaten “Envoi Allen” who is thought of by many as the “Banker” of the week; However, Tizzard is not put off by the opposition and is adamant that his horse deserves to take his chance in a  Grade 1.

“He just catches your eye in everything he does his work and on the racecourse, he’s a gorgeous horse and he deserves to take his chance”

Copperhead – RSA Chase Thursday 2.10

“Looking forward to Running him”

He tasted defeat only once this season on his first run back in October and since then he has gone from strength to strength; winning his next 3 starts easily. He bolted up in the Grade 2 Reynoldstown Chase last time at Ascot by an impressive 17 lengths and the further he went the better he looked. The RSA Chase  looks his likely target and he should be able to hold his own against other progressive types.

“His progression this season has been unbelievable really, he’s just improved physically all the way through, he jumps particularly well and we’re looking forward to running him”.

Harry Senior – Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle 2.50 Friday

“Improving All the time”

He has improved with each run this season and won with authority on Cheltenham trials day in the Grade 2 Ballymore trial over 2 and a half. The 2 defeats he suffered read well in hindsight with both his conquerers, Sporting John and Edwardstone fancied for their respective Cheltenham engagements.

“His form has turned out real well, he’s progressed all the way through and that was a lovely performance in the Grade 2, it was a step forward from what he had shown”.

The step up to 3 miles can only benefit this ex Irish  pointer and he looks to have as good a chance as any to get a winner on the board for the Tizzards.

“Trip wise on good to soft 3 miles will be just up his street, he needs to improve again but is a horse that’s improving all the time at home and is going in the right direction”

Lieutenant Rocco  – Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle 2.50 Friday

“Done nothing wrong”

Lieutenant Rocco is another unbeaten novice hurdler for the Tizzards and he has looked ultra impressive in both his starts this season bolting up on both occasions. Both those races were on extremely testing going and it will be interesting to see how he copes with better ground at the festival.

“He’s done nothing wrong, he’s 2 from 2 in novice hurdles, he’s a big strong horse and he is eye-catching”

Rocco is the bigger priced of the pair but Tizzard is unsure which horse Puppy Power will choose to ride. The Lieutenant undoubtedly has a lot of untapped potential and both horses could be a lot closer in price come the start time.

“He’s earned his right to take his place he needs to take another step forward but who’s to say he’s not going to”.

Lostintranslation – Gold Cup Friday 3.30

“Excited about running him”

He had looked like a serious Gold Cup contender when taking the scalp of Bristol De Mai handsomely at his beloved Haydock in the Betfair Chase last November. His flop in the King George was too bad to be true and if he can be forgiven that run he must be given a chance but the news of a recent wind operation would cast doubts.

“He ran a flat race in the King George and it took his toll on him, he’s had a small wind operation since then and he’s in lovely form at home, he’s just coming right at the right time of the year”.

The Tizzard’s clearly hold him in high regard but 3m2f around Cheltenham with a stiff uphill finish doesn’t look like something he wants and I can see others seeing out the trip much stronger than him. Tizzard, however, fancies him to have a good chance in a wide-open renewal.

“I think this is as open a gold cup we’ve had without there being a massive standout horse, he travels well, he jumps well and he’s got some cracking form with Defi du Seuil around there but he’s got to get the last few furlongs up the hill”
