There is more racing from Ireland today and Clonmel is the venue for the four selections on our Tuesday lucky 15 tip. The action starts at 2pm and our first selection runs in that race.
Each day there is one Irish horse racing meeting so keep up to date with our daily racing tips as we look to find some winners from the likes of Dundalk, Clonmel, Naas and Down Patrick.
The opening race at Clonmel looks to be a hotly contested maiden hurdle, in which several have a shout after running well behind horses who have gone on to better things. Farmix was just over four lengths behind Groody Rover who went on to trounce his opposition next time out, whereas Florrie Webb was third on hurdling debut behind two who went on to win subsequently. However, preference is for Coolagh Park who made his debut in a race in which the first and second went on to contest races at Cheltenham. Those horses were Longhouse Poet and the horse who looked certain to win the Martin Pipe before falling at the last – Column of Fire. His run that day was encouraging before tiring late on and the shorter distance here should help. He was comfortably beaten last time out but he was seven lengths clear of the third who has gone on to win since and he is the selection here.
Few of these have inspiring form but Cosa Ban was in the process of running a big race when coming down two out earlier in the month at Gowran Park. Although impossible to say whether she would have gone on to win, she looked certain to give the odds on favourite something to think about as she was yet to be asked for maximum effort. A few of these have shown improved form now stepped out of bumpers and She’s All Vintage may give the selection the most to think about.
Bachasson has been campaigned over hurdles since his fall in the 2018 Cheltenham Gold Cup but he has been running well and was sixth in this season’s Coral Cup at The Festival. Provided he retains his ability over the bigger obstacles he should be able to take a race such as this. Death Duty was a high class chaser back in 2017 but has shown little since his return after over two years off the track. A return to form would not be a surprise considering he is trained by Gordon Elliott but this would be some feat. Mortal was fifth in last season’s RSA Chase and could pose a threat but this would appear to be short of his best trip.
The closing bumper has a short-priced favourite in the form of the unraced Kilcruit who is the choice of Patrick Mullins over Captain Kangaroo. Yousayitbest was an expensive recruit after winning his point, however, Frontal Assault could get off the mark after bumping into a couple of quality prospects. First time out he was beaten by Energumene (who beat our selection for the first race by 19 lengths on his hurdle debut) before finishing third to Champion Bumper winner Ferny Hollow at Fairyhouse. On both of those starts he has stayed on well and the slight step up in trip should suit, at the current best odds of 10/3 he could represent the value in what looks to be a competitive race.
