Enable is back for this weekend’s Coral Eclipse at Sandown
Saturday sees the return of Enable in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown, one of my favourite horses. This filly created history by becoming the first Arc winner to complete a double in the Breeders Cup Turf last November 2017 (beating Magical) at Churchill Downs, where everyone thought would be an end on her blistering career which would have been a certainty if she was the opposite sex.
There is a sense of unfinished business from John Gosden’s top notch filly as this will be her first appearance as a five-year-old. An injury setback meant we have had to wait until September to see her back in action where she took advantage of excellent terms to defy a 342 day absence to defeat Crystal Ocean in a Group 3 September Stakes at Kempton. Not only did she win our bet with the Parimatch welcome bonus offer, but by a very impressive three and a half lengths.
After this, Enable built on previous successes by becoming an eighth dual winner of the famous Arc. She was not 100% that day and attention will now turn to her gaining a third Arc feat which she could add to her glowing collection of career achievements.
Enable will feature in our ITV racing tips for this weekend where she is still a very backable price at 10/11 (at the time of writing)
Enable’s Career Achievements
• 2018 Arc
• 2017 Arc
• 2017 Yorkshire Oaks
• 2017 King George
• 2017 Irish Oaks
• 2017 Oaks
Prize money: £6,377,473
Enable’s connections (including John Gosden and racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe) are always cautious about sending their fillies out too early and plans were quickly changed for Enable when she was planned to run at Royal Ascot or in the less daunting Hardwicke Stakes which is a Grade 2 contest. However, her return was again delayed for a later target after she confirmed that she was not ready for a run when contesting at Newmarket at the end of May. This means that her bid for another Arc and the road to Longchamp again will begin this Saturday.
It will be great to see the Khalid Abdullah star filly back in action and she will take all the beating.
