Epsom Betting Tips for Every Race on Saturday 4th July 2020
Epsom Derby day is finally here and below you will find the Epsom betting tips for every one of the seven races on the card including the Oaks and the Derby.

The opener at Epsom on Derby Day is the Woodcote Stakes over 6f and it was won by Pinatubo last year. Twaasol heads the market this year at 2/1 and is unbeaten winning both career starts well for the Owen Burrows team.
I prefer the chances of MODERN NEWS 5/2 here for the Charlie Appleby team. Modern News was impressive winning his first start at Newmarket staying on well over this distance. He struggles to replicate that form next time at Royal Ascot over 7f but the Appleby team didn’t seem to be firing on all cylinders there. After another little break back down to 6f with the Appleby team back in form I’m confident he can follow in the same footsteps at Pinatubo by winning the Woodcote.
The 2.25 race is the Surrey Stakes over the 7f distance.
I think the favourite SAFE VOYAGE 5/4 will be tough to beat here. Safe Voyage made a very pleasing comeback run finishing second at Haydock in a decent looking race. I think he’ll bowl along out in front here on ground that won’t be an issue and prove tough to peg back. He is certainly the classiest horse in the line-up and knows how to win.
I’d give a small shout to Oh This Is Us who does seem overpriced here and will be staying on strongly at the finish. Hopefully only strongly enough to grab 2nd.
The 3.00 race is one of the more wide-open races of the day. Desert Icon heads the market at 11/4 and will do for many after his impressive win last week.
I like IRONCLAD 6/1 NAP here though for the Hugo Palmer team. I think he is a lot better than this mark of 86 going off his pedigree and previous runs. He has been gelded since his last run and we’ve seen many times recently how much this can improve horses and at 7/1 he is the value here for me.
3.40 Epsom (Investec Oaks Betting Tips)
The first big race of the day comes at 3.40 and it is the Investec Oaks over 1m4f. Aiden O’Brien holds a strong hand with Love and Ennistymon whilst John Gosden has a strong chance with Frankel filly Frankly Darling. It appears to be between these on paper. Frankly Darling was impressive last time out winning at Royal Ascot but Ennistymon was staying on well late on and I don’t think there will be much between them here.
It’s all about LOVE 5/4 NB here for me though. She was an impressive winner of the 1000 Guineas and she should be even better over this longer distance. Aiden O’Brien has won this race seven times so there is no better man for the job and I think she’s our next superstar filly.
The 4.15 race is a trappy little Group 3 race in which unbeaten FOORAAT 7/4 heads the market. She’s unbeaten in her two career starts and her pedigree suggests she is worthy to be running in a race like this. Cloak Of Sprits is a solid contender but disappointing last time out and I’m happy to take her on with the unexposed Fooraat here.
4.55 Epsom (Epsom Derby Betting Tip)
The big one comes up at 4.55. English King heads the market for the Derby at 4/1 and continues to drift at the time of writing. He has the ghastly stall 1 which has to be a worry but Frankie is more than capable of winning from a bad draw. Kameko is next in the market at 9/2 at the time of writing but I don’t think he will stay personally, I feel 1m2f is his trip and will be outstayed here.
The horse for me is RUSSIAN EMPEROR 13/2 Russian Emperor won the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot in an impressive manor doing all his best work at the end of the race. This son of Galileo has managed to have two runs this season so will be at peak fitness which may not be the case for some of the others that line up here. Last year’s winning jockey Seamie Heffernan takes the ride and I think he may just grind this one out and win.
Mogul is a serious player and I think if this was a normal year he’d be the one but I just worry he may have needed 2 prep runs to be at his best. I wouldn’t be surprised if he won nevertheless.
I will also have a small e/w punt on MAX VEGA 33/1 for the Beckett team. I am happy to forgive him comeback run as Becketts horses were all struggling at the start of the comeback and his form last year was impressive. He will have no issues on the ground and after a little break since his comeback run he could improve significantly now and at 33/1 I’ll add him to go with Russian Emperor here.
The finale on the is a 7f handicap and it’s 5/1 the field which shows it’s certainly wide open.
The one I will be playing is CORAZON ESPINADO 9/1. This race will have definitely been his target and I’m sure Simon Dow will have him fully tuned here. His course form is second to none winning three times and never being out the top 3. He has to be a serious e/w player at the prices.
