Glorious Goodwood Day 4 Lucky 15 Tips – Friday 31st July
The appearance of Battash in the King George Qatar Stakes is the feature of Day 4 at Goodwood but he is expected to start at a short odds-on price, see our lucky 15 tips for the day below.
For this preview, the main contenders for three Group 3 contests and a competitive One-mile handicap are featured with a view to selecting a Lucky 15. All four of these races are televised on ITV.

Saint Clair Oak Tree Stakes – 1.45 Goodwood
After racing creditably in Group 1 races this season, One Master reverts to this 7f Group 3 contest and it is worth noting that she won the Prix De La Foret at Longchamp last October. Dropping down to this grade may help improve a statistic of just one win in ten previous outings.
In opposition will be Althiqa who won a Listed event at Deauville this month by just a short head and will need improvement to be competitive in this affair. However, Irish trained Valeria Messalina was a cosy winner of a Group 3 contest at Cork last time following a disappointing show in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She should be competitive at this level.
Breathtaking Look could also be a contender after just failing in a York Group 3 race recently and she could be more suited by this extra furlong after winning at this distance at Doncaster last September.
Tip – One Master to win.
Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes – 2.15 Goodwood
Just five horses have been declared for this one-mile Group 3 contest but it should still be an intriguing race. Khaloosy is expected to start favourite and he was an excellent winner of the Britannia Stakes at Ascot in his only start this season. His rating has increased significantly since that performance.
My Oberon will be a creditable opponent after a winning a recent low-key York race by six lengths. This contest is much tougher but he deserves the opportunity as does Tilsit who impressed at Newcastle when scoring by nearly twenty lengths. He had finished a very narrow second on his debut.
Of the other two runners, Repartee finished a remote last at Newbury last time after a decent display when winning at Windsor while Mystery Power is winless in five outings and cannot seem to score when dropping down in grades.
Tip – Tilsit to Win.
Unibet Golden Mile Handicap – 2.45 Goodwood
Fifteen runners go to post for this Class 2 one-mile handicap with Montatham seeking a third victory this season. His only defeat occurred in the Royal Hunt Cup when finishing a close second behind Dark Vision, and he is a consistent horse.
Bottom weight Prompting will be a danger after two wins this Summer. Both victories were earned in Class 4 races and while he appears capable of improvement, he last raced six days previously.
A good showing is also expected from Sir Busker who is also attempting a three-timer in the last two months. He won his opening two races at this level but just failed to beat Motakhayyel at Newbury, and may have been inconvenienced by the drop to seven furlongs.
Seven furlongs has also been the recent trip for Cliffs Of Capri in three races this term and despite being placed no lower than fourth in each contest, he won at Meydan back in February over the one mile distance. However, he is not too reliable when it comes to winning.
Tip – Montatham to Win.
L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Glorious Stakes – 3.45 Goodwood
This Group 3 1m4f race has been reduced to seven runners following the unfortunate demise of Defoe but in his absence, Communique is the likely favourite. Although he is a previous Group 2 winner, he has failed to score in seven prior attempts in quality company and he may have been outstayed in a recent second-placed effort at York over nearly 1m6f.
Alounak will represent decent opposition and although he is still a maiden, dropping to this grade may help him lose that tag whereas Desert Encounter was a multiple Group 3 winner last season and produced a useful effort when third at Newmarket earlier this month.
Pablo Escobar is another horse worth noting in this event. He rarely runs a poor race but may need to improve to become competitive at this level.
Tip – Communique to Win.
