ITV Horse Racing Tips for Saturday 15th August – Through the Card Selections
This weekend’s ITV racing tips come from Newbury and Newmarket and Kyle has picked out his selections for Saturday’s horse racing including the Denford Stakes and the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Geoffrey Freer Stakes.
There are 7 races on the schedule and you can get this bet through the card sign-up offer when you join 888Sport: bet £10 on the 1.50pm Newbury and you get SEVEN free £5 bets.
First up we have the Denford Stakes over 7f and I am going for WILLIAM BLIGH for the team of Ralph Beckett and Jockey Harry Bentley to kick off our Saturday racing tips. He made it third time lucky with a strong performance at Haydock over 7f in July. He was third in the Gusbourne Nursey Handicap but conditions were a little lively for him. Connections will be hoping for rain as he won on good to soft at Haydock, with rain on the forecast. He merits respect and has claims for me. Guru scored over this C&D 28 days ago. He is one who looks to progress again and can be a big player here. Dhahabi is another who won on his debut. He has an excellent pedigree and comes here with a massive price tag (3,100,000 Gns as a yearling). He was slightly green on debut and should run well again. Francesco Guardi another Frankel colt like Dhahabi who won on his debut also can show more promise again.
KNOWING stayed on well in his last race over 1m 2f at Sandown 23 days ago and is being stepped up here in trip now over 1m 4f in The Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap. He is a dual 10f winner last year and is heading in the right way. He was unlucky not to be closer at Sandown but with a good draw(1) and an inform jockey on board in the form of Kevin Stott. He can progress again further, this will be harder but I feel he merits respect here. Boss Power is one to consider and was impressive on his handicap debut at Yarmouth 14 days ago. Night Bear is another who is well respected in the market betting. Indigo Lake steps down in trip and is wearing blinkers for the first time can find form here. The same goes for Zuba both of these have an E/W chance.
My selection in the Unibet You’re On Handicap is AFAAK who was the 2019 Royal Hunt Cup winner, he was 7th in this renewal of that race in June. He was a fine third with first-time blinkers at Glorious Goodwood 15 days ago. I feel he can come on from that performance and go well again. With Jim Crowley on board, this is another tick in the box for the Charlie Hills 6-year-old. Orbaan has claims for an E/W place after winning a York Handicap over this distance in July. He was 4th over the same C&D at York 21 days ago. Tempus is a well-bred type and has shown promise and has potential to go well again for Roger Charlton. Overwrite steps back in trip again and has claims.
In the Betway Handicap over 7f. KARIBANA can look to claim a hat trick after winning at Newbury in July and over this C&D a fortnight ago. He has been given a 6lb rise and he is a horse on the upgrade for trainer Richard Hughes. Connections have good claims here for a hat trick and it is hard to oppose against that. His main contender will be Broughtons Gold who has more to come. He has won 3 out of 5 starts. With Hayley Turner on board again who won last time out at Winsdor. Black Caspian has E/W claims for jockey Kevin Stott. This horse has been in great form of late after winning a 16 runner race handicap at York back on the 9th of July and was then 4th of 14 at York again 20 days ago. My tip is KARIBANA to overcome the 6lb penalty and complete a hat trick.
In the competitive Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Geoffrey Freer Stakes with a field of 8 runners competing over 1m 5f 61y my selection is ALIGNAK for Sir Michael Stoute and Jockey Oisin Murphy. He won on his return to the track back in June at Newcastle and he came close to winning a listed event at Haydock 29 days ago when he finished 2nd of 7. This is a harder test for him and this may help him unlock more potential and improvement and he can be a leading contender for me in this contest. Morando was a runner up in this race 12 months ago and will look to go one better here and he has claims for this. Hukum steps up in class and deserves his place after winning the King George V Stakes at Ascot. Communique will be looking to get a quick lead and set the pace here. He is group 2 winner and merits consideration. Max Vega will be hoping for rain and Sir Michael Stoute has Sextant entered in this who was 4th in this race last year.

CASE KEY E/W will be looking to win the Betway Grey Horse Handicap for a third time for trainer Michael Appleby. He was back to winning ways at Leicester over 6f back in June and was continued his good form when runner up at Yarmouth 31 days ago. Jockey Angus Villers claims 5lb here to help his cause to win this and I think he has a great chance. Endowed is respected for trainer Richard Hannon and has a wind op and was 4th on the Rowley course here back in June. Rock Boy Grey has claims for a place currently at 10/1 for the Mark Loughnane team. Buccaneers Vault for jockey Megan Nicholls who is claiming 3lbs here can mount a challenge for Paul Midgley who horse has been in good form over the summer.
In the final race of the day on ITV, the Unibet Hungerford Stakes (Group 2) (Str) the main THREAT for me to win this contest is the Richard Hannon 3-year-old THREAT. A group 2 winner over 6f/7f last season steps down in class after struggling to make an impact in Group 1’s over 6f to 1m this season. He likes this trip the most and I feel he can use his experience from the group 1 outings to land this contest. Dream of Dreams is a smart type and he is a consistent type who went close to winning the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot back in June. He was the runner up back in 2018 in the renewal of this and he could be the one to beat. Surf Dancer is well worth his place and can go well here. Glorious Journey won this last year and will be looking to retain his crown. Pierre Lapin has been poor since coming back as a 3-year-old who was unbeaten as a 2-year-old and Roger Varian will be looking to find his old form.Breathtaking Look could put in a bold show from stall 1.
