The opener at York is a Group 3 contest over the 1m distance. 2018 winner Lord Glitters heads the market and appears to be running back into form judged on his last run here at York.
The horse I like is ZABEEL PRINCE. Zabeel Prince went off a short priced favourite on his return last month but could only manage 5th. That was his first run for over a year and I got the impression the run was needed. He is a previous Group 1 winner and has won at York in the past. Roger Varian is banging in the winners at the moments and I think he’s a good price here.
The 2:25 race from York is the Sky Bet Melrose handicap over 1m5f.
I like FAVORITE MOON NAP here for the Haggas team. Favorite Moon won in a taken manor last time out pulling clear with runner-up Subjectivist at Haydock to win well. Subjectivist has certainly stepped up again since that run running a big race at Goodwood which shows the form is there. I expect him to improve again and I believe this current handicap mark isn’t the ceiling of his limits.
Midnights Legacy buds to add another win to his tally and is respected but Alan Kings horse aren’t firing as well as they were earlier in the season which has to be a concern. Kipps is a consistent performer who will be expected to run a solid race here too.
The 3:00 race from York is the Sky Bet City of York Stakes, a Group 2 contest over 7f. A lot of familiar names line up for this one with One Master, Safe Voyage and Brando all set to run.
I think One Master is going to be a tough nut to crack here and any showers that arrive will only aid his chances. This distance is ideal for him and he will do for many.
I am happy to chance BRANDO EW here at a decent price. Brando has been a solid performer throughout his career winning plenty of decent sprint races. He is now an 8-year-old but we’ve seen sprinters perform at the high level at this age and beyond before. He hasn’t had a great season but he stayed on well last time out after a slow start to finish 6th in the Group 1 July Cup. Kevin Ryan has a great record round this track and ground won’t be an issue here. If he can get away on terms this time I expect him a bold show at a good ew price.
The feature on the card is obviously the Sky Bet Ebor handicap over 1m5f. It is wide open and there is bound to be a few hard luck stories here. Fujairi Prince and Pablo Escobarr head the top of the market, two horses coming off a decent win last time out and are sure to run their race for punters.
I like TRUE SELF EW here for the Willie Mullins team. He ran in this last year off a 2lb higher mark and finished sixth. Willie has gave him a very light campaign again and I expect he’s always had this race in mind. Jason Watson is an encouraging booking and the master trainer knows how to win these types of races.
I am also happy to chance an outsider and the one for me is EUCHEN GLEN EW. Beaten 6l by the superstar stayed Stradivarius last time out is not bad form at all and he has slid down the weights. He ran well the time before that here at York and I’ve always thought this horse is classy enough to win a decent staying handicap like this one. Big price so I’ll add him here.

Sandown is also on ITV today and the first race from Sandown on ITV is a handicap over 1m1f. Plenty of unexposed sorts line up and it’s certainly a race to have your notebook ready for any eyecatchers.
The horse I like on this occasion is TENBURY WELLS NB. This horse won very well on handicap debut staying on strongly to win going away. He is only up 5lb here and I don’t see that being enough to stop him winning again. John Gosden is arguably the best at bringing horses like this one on.
Next up at Sandown is a tricky handicap over 1m and Golden Force heads the market as he bids to complete the hat-trick.
I like ENIGMATIC EW here for the Joseph Parr team. He won well last time out and remains well treated on old form. I think the fact he got his head in front last time out will have gave him some confidence and the booming of James Doyle catches the eye.
The 3:15 race is another very competitive handicap over the 1m distance. Matthew Flinders heads the market at 6/1 which says a lot about how wide open it is. Matthew Finders has certainly shown signs of promise but Roberto Escobarr didn’t do much for the form earlier this week.
The horse I like is is MAKRAM EW He really caught the eye when winning well last time out at Ascot and he went straight into the tracker for me. He lines up in a competitive race here but he’s open to further improvement. Trainer Roger Charlton has had 7 winners from his last 21 runners so he’s in flying form. Hopefully he can add to that tally here.
