13.45 Cartmel

First up we have the class 3 William Hill Play Responsibly Handicap Hurdle over 2m 1f 46y and my selection is last years winner THE STEWARD for the James Moffatt team, who have two other runners in this contest. They are Golden Town and Altruism who both have chances as well for this contest. THE STEWARD won at the odds of 33/1 last year and has had mixed results since then but is only 2lbs higher than last year here and looked near last years form when last seen here over C&D finishing 3rd to todays favourite for this race Glan Y Gors back on the 7th of August. I am tipping him E/W here and I feel he can run a big race. As mentioned above Glan Y Gors won here earlier this month and he is a useful flat winner when completing a hat trick at Pontefract in June. He has been hit with a 7lb penalty following the successes but he can still remain competitive here. Constancio for trainer Donald McCain Jnr and champion Jockey Brian Hughes can look to get involved with their Useful 7-year-old stayer. The Veteran in the race Beeno won here twice over C&D last summer and was 2nd of 5 at Perth back in July and is a front runner who will like to set the pace. He has claims here for a place and its hard to argue against that.

14.00 Sandown

In the class 2 Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap over 5f 10y Mountain Peak arrives in Great form and is top of the Market Betting for trainer Ed Walker. Jockey Andrea Atzeni takes over on the mount from William Buick who rode Mountain Peak to victory at Haydock earlier this month. He has been hit with a 7lb penalty and could be in the mix again. Dave Dexter has been hit with a 3lb rise after winning at Chepstow 6 weeks ago. He can go well again and has every chance. Blue De Vega is looking to complete a hat trick for Robert Cowell but he is at his highest mark for two years now and if he can navigate that he can run a big race. But I am taking a chance on the 4-year-old who is improving all the time this season BENNY AND THE JETS for Sylvester Kirk. All of his runs have come over 5f this season and won at Wolverhampton 11 days ago. He has only been nudged our 1lb for that success and he should remain competitive again and with Ben Curtis on board he can get a good run from stall 2. Saaheq has a E/W chance for Mrs A J Perrett and Jockey Alistair Rawlinson who was a 3 time winner over 5L last season. Stone Of Destiny will be looking to run a big race after a run of poor form of late for trainer Andrew Balding but he won over 5f at Ascot last season. But a step down in trip again could be what is needed to spark a comeback.

14.15 Cartmel

Looking to win this race for the second year running ARDERA CROSS will be looking to put two below par runs behind him. He has won 6 times and with this the Handicapper may have caught him but he looked like he needed the run when last seen at Perth back on the 11th of August. I feel he still has a chance to place here so I am tipping him E/W here. Jockey Sam Coltherd claims 3lb here to help his chances. Yccs Portocervo has been impressive of late with a third and a 1st when last seen at Uttoxeter 15 days ago and is the leading player here. Court Royale is a three time hurdle winner and will look to build on his victory at Stratford Last Month but has been hit with a 7lb rise. Northern Beau will be one to watch in the market and could run a big race for the team of Michael Scudamore and Jockey Brendan Powell. Demi Sang is a dual course winner here and is down to his last winning mark over fences. Tonto’s Spirit was a dual C&D winner last year and is back down to a workable mark. But I am hoping for ARDERA CROSS to rediscover his form and repeat last years feat for William Young Jnr and I am taking my chances with him.

14.30 Sandown

The class 2 Betway Handicap over 1m 1f 209y has a field of 10 runners and it is a competitive race on paper. Jim Crowley will be looking to finish off a golden week after his performances at York with him taking the mount of Muraad for the Owen Burrows team. He is a type who gets better and better with each race and won at Goodwood on the 1st of August over a similar distance. He has claims again and can be a danger. Hyanna is a useful mare who run a big race at Ascot earlier this month in the Thames Hospice Handicap when finishing 2nd of 12. On form she looks a player for this. Jockey Georgia Dobie Claims 5lbs what will help. Davydenko was 4 wins from 5 runs last season but hasn’t looked the same horse this season, he has been gelded and visored since his last win in hopes to bring back some of his old form. High End hasn’t run in over 1000 days and hasn’t dropped in the weights in his absence, his chances will be based on the market. But I like the look of VICTORY CHIME for the team of Ralph Beckett and Jockey Harry Bentley to put in a big performance after winning here over C&D in the past and is on for a hat trick after winning at Epsom and Windsor on his reappearance after nearly a year of the track. He should put in another big run and can be a leading contender from stall 3.

14.50 Naas

In The Irish EBF Ballyhane Consolation Race (Median Auction Race) over 6f this race could chuck up a few surprises with such a big field and I am going for an E/W claims with CHIEF LITTLE HAWK for Aiden O’ Brien and Jockey Seamie Heffernan. He is a useful colt who was a winner at Navan in June. He was 2nd of 8 in a listed race at Curragh when only behind Frenetic on good to soft Ground. He has a high draw to navigate from but has the pick of the jockey bookings and there aren’t many better in Ireland than Seamie Heffernan. Devious Company who ran at York on Thursday has been a runner up twice in group 2 company will still has claims if turned out again quickly. Johnny Murtagh will be hoping his lightly raced 2-year-old Measure Of Magic can improve again and take advantage of a good draw and with his stable in great form and course form he is a big player here. Monaasib is 2 wins from 4 runs this year and is looking to complete a hat trick for trainer Kevin Prendergast. Giorgio Vasari is a C&D winner and is 2 wins from 5 runs this year for Aiden O’ Brien and Jockey Wayne Lordan. Charmed at 40/1 currently for Trainer Joseph O’ Brien holds good place value after finishing 2nd behind Giorgio Vasari here over C&D 20 days ago and is running from stall 1. This is a  competitive race and will be one not to miss.

15.05 Sandown

In the group 3 Betway Atalanta Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ over 1m Billesdon Brook is a two time group 1 winner and has went close recently when beaten by the neck of Nazeef, she must be considered here as connections have lowered her sights. Lavender’s Blue won this race last year but this renewal looks stronger. Lady Bowthorpe won well at Ascot last month when Landing a group 3 by over 4 Lengths so another big performance would be needed here. The current Favourite to land this success is a horse who is looking to get back to winning ways after being undefeated as a 2-year-old that horse is QUADRILATERAL for Roger Charlton and Ryan Moore who takes the saddle for the first time replacing Jason Watson. She is a group 1 winner and was third in the 1000 Guineas and 3rd in the Coronation Stakes and with her Sight lowered also I feel she is a the leading player here based on form and she will be hard to oppose again.

15.20 Naas

In the second last race of the day on ITV we are at Naas for the group 3 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Stanerra Stakes over 1m 6f and the one to beat here is the current Market Favourite KASTASA who has won her last 5 races . She didn’t need to be at her best when last seen at Gowran when winning a listed event 29 days ago. She is up against some good fillies from the Aiden O’ Brien team with Passion and Ennistymon going against her but from stall 1 she can be a danger again and she will be tough to beat. Aiden O’ Brien has won this race two out of the last three renewals and they will take a lot of stopping. The winner will be between one of these three listed above for me and I feel with her showing that she still had more in hand at Gowran, she can use that here and be the one to beat for me.

15.40 Sandown

In the final race of the day that we are covering at Sandown, the group 3 Betway Solario Stakes over 7f and Etonian looked a good prospect when winning here over C&D in a field of 13 runners back in July. Connections are stepping him up in class and must be confident that he can progress again with a good performance here. Dubai Fountain for Trainer Mark Johnston will be hoping that his progressive 2-year-old can take his form and improve again here after a 2nd place over C&D here back in July. William Buick is booked on board for the first time and will be hoping to be involved in the run in. But for me I think KING VEGA has a lot to like on paper and comes with a bit of a price tag. That price tag being 350,000 Guineas. He scored with a second on his debut over C&D here 3 weeks ago when losing out to Yibir. Champion Jockey Oisin Murphy takes over from Rob Hornby and this 2-year-old is sure to improve again and make his mark at a higher level for trainer Andrew Balding who’s yard won this race back in 2016. So I am going for KING VEGA to win this.
