The first race live on ITV is the Betfred Nifty Fifty Draw Handicap over 1m with a field of 5 runners and my pick is LAZER SHOW for the Godolphin Team and Jockey Callum Shepherd. He stepped up with a good performance to win a 7 runner handicap at Newmarket over 8f 36 days ago. He finished well on Top and looked to still have more. He may be 8lb higher now but he is a obvious Threat and I feel he could defy this penalty. He is the type to progress and will be hard to beat for me. Vale Of Kent has not won in his last 12 runs and was 9th of 14 in a handicap at this course 22 days ago. Connections will be hoping for this 5-year-old to find some of his old form. This is a competitive race for the opening contest on ITV.
We go to Curragh now for the Group 2 Moyglare ‘Jewels’ Blandford Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ over 1m 2f and with a field of currently 11 runners I am expecting a excellent contest here and I am edging with MAGIC WAND to get the better of One Voice. The 5-year-old is a very smart type and a group 1 winner back in Australia at Flemington last season. The Jockey that day was Ryan Moore who is board here. She is a course winner here also but did run below par in the Nassau at Goodwood back in July doing too much to soon. With a good run in the Eclipse, She is the the type to bounce back and is the one to beat if she can bounce back. The latter mentioned One Voice gave Fancy Blue one heck of race in the Nassau when losing out by a neck. She found it hard against Love in the Yorkshire Oaks in her last run 24 days ago. She is a smart type and is sure to go well again. Dermot Weld has won 5 of the last 6 renewals of and he has two runners today in this, Amma Grace and Zawara both have potential but this is a tough old contest. Lemista for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane won a group 2 here when last seen 56 days ago. She has 4 wins on the bounce now and is on form and can progress here so they hold claims. Joseph O’Brien will hope to get the better of his father with one of his runner Thundering Nights who is looking to complete a hat trick after winning at Leopardstown and here at Curragh. Cayenne Pepper steps down in trip and should give another good account for herself.
The 3rd race of the day brings us back to Chelmsford with the TML HANDICAP over 6f with 7 runners confirmed and current betting market favourite is Woven for trainer David Simcock and jockey Jamie Spencer who was a good 2nd of 10 in a handicap at Goodwood 14 days ago. He goes off the same mark here and merits respect. Raucous is a C&D winner here and jockey Ray Dawson Claims a valuable 5lb what may be vital. But I am taking my chances with BURIDAN who has 5 wins from 19 flat runs, he made a slow start what cost him at Goodwood last time out 46 days ago when finishing 8th of 17th. He has weight on his side and has dropped to below his last winning mark and could be ready here to pounce again and with Jim Crowley on board, this is another tick in the box for me.
We return to Curragh for the first Group 1 of the day, the Derrinstown Stud Flying Five Stakes over 5f and with a field 15 runners I am going with QUE AMORO E/W in this fantastic contest to build on his performances this season. She is a Sprinter and a smart type at that, she is 1 win from 3 runs this year when she landed a win at Ayr in June. She was a brilliant 2nd to Battaash in The Nunthorpe stakes at York 23 days ago and arrives here as a serious contender. Jockey Paul Mulrennan has been in great form this season so I expect them to be involved in the run in. Make A Challenge likes this shorter trip and has 4 wins from 6 runs this year and he can be a danger here for the team of Denis Hogan and James J Doyle. A’ali beat Make A Challenge over this C&D here back in June and may have found the Nunthorpe a bit hot but this more suitable and he cant be ignored. Liberty Beach is the type to bounce back and placed in a group 1 at Royal Ascot behind Battaash and placed behind A’ali in a group 3 at Sandown. He was below his best at Goodwood when last seen 44 days ago when 4th of 7. He has claims for E/W. Equilateral for trainer Charlie Hills hasn’t been at his level in both of his recent starts after chasing home stable star Battaash in the Kings Stand at Ascot so you think a big run could be due soon. Glass slippers has only had 2 runs this season one of them was in the King George when only finding Battaash to much. He was the winner of the Prix de L’Abbaye at Longchamp and merits respect based on that form.

The last race on ITV at Chelmsford is the Betfred.com Handicap over 7f and I like the progressive CRY HAVOC to land this success. She is C&D winner here and is a lightly raced type who hasn’t been out of the top 2 in her first 4 runs. She is 1 win from 2 runs this year and was 2nd in a handicap here over C&D 22 days ago. She has the experience here and could be hard to stop. Jockey George Rooke Claims an important 5lbs. Fleeting Prince for the team of Charlie Hills and jockey Kieran Shoemark was 4th in a group 3 in a recent run and brings sound form. The same goes for Aljari who is course winner and is 2 wins from 4 runs this year.
The second group 1 contest at Curragh is the Fillies’ Morglare Stud Stakes over 7f and the one to beat here is PRETTY GORGEOUS for Trainer Joseph O’Brien who is an exciting type with 2 wins from 3 runs this season. She has form over this C&D when winning here 22 days ago. She beat fellow runner Shale in that. She can progress again and holds leading claims for me. Shale for brother Donnacha O’Brien is improving with each run and can place here. Their father Aiden is the master of this race with 5 wins in the last 10 runnings and his best chance is Mother Earth who’s placed over this C&D in the same race as the above mentioned runners and could be suited by the increase in trip but will need to be on the top of her game. One to watch in the betting market is Thunder Beauty for jockey Colin Keane who won at this course on her debut and could have more to offer and at currently 20/1 she would hold good place value.
The second last race of the day on ITV is the group 1 Geoff’s Vincent O’Brien National Stakes over 7f and LUCKY VEGA could be the main player here after winning the Phoenix Stakes here over 6f 35 days ago beating The Lir Jet by 3 and a half lengths. He should find the step up in trip no problem and I feel he can be the one to beat here. Battleground is another who is improving every run after winning the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood by 2L 47 days ago, he had a bit in hand and the Aiden’ O brien trained 2-year-old wont go down without a fight. Charlie Appleby has won the last two renewals of this and Master Of The Seas has a good chance to make a hat trick for his trainer. The winner of the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket over this distance 64 days ago. He finished ahead by 3 lengths and is one to consider.
In our last preview at Curragh for today it’s the big one. The group 1 Comer Group International Irish St Leger over 1m 6f. The Current betting market favourite is the Aiden O’Brien trained Sovereign. The Irish Derby winner last year romped home to beat stablemate Anthony Van Dyck. He found Enable to good last time out at Royal Ascot when 2nd in the King George. He is returning to this trip which he finished 3rd at this track back in June. He can be a leading player here and trainer Aiden O’Brien has a good record in this race. Joseph O’Brien has 3 time C&D winner Twilight Payment to challenge his father here. He was a winner of the Curragh Cup over this C&D here 57 days ago crushing 2nd place Master Of Reality by 8L. He cant be ignored. Fujaira Prince for trainer Roger Varian and Jockey Andrea Atzeni is a lightly raced 6-year-old who is looking to complete a hat trick after winning at Ascot and The Heritage Handicap at York so has to be respected. But I am taking my Chances with PASSION E/W, Aiden O’Brien’s second runner in this contest. The talented 3-year-old who is a smart type won last time out at Naas winning the Stanerra Stakes. She should be suited by the increased trip and has been given age/sex allowance and with top Jockey Seamie Heffernan back on board, she cant be ruled out for me.
