1.30 Doncaster
The first selection of the day comes up in the Betfair Wentworth Stakes which is a listed event ran over 6f. My selection here is the Sprinting stalwart Dakota Gold (7/2) who always gives 100% and guarantees punters a run for their money.
The Michael Dods charge has won three times this season and also has winning form on soft ground which we are likely to get here. Despite carrying top weight I think Dakota Gold might have a touch more speed than the rest of the field here.
Brando did place last time out the Champions sprint stakes which is obviously also a classy piece of form although the Kevin trained gelding has not been at all consistent so far so this season so I think its worth taking a chance on Dakota Gold.
1.50 Wincanton
The next selection comes up in the Richard Barber Memorial Mares Handicap Hurdle which is a class contested over 2m 5f. The favourite here is the Nicky Henderson trained Sunrise Ruby who was impressive last time out despite looking like she was still learning her job with a high head carriage throughout.
I’m going to take a chance on the Paul Nicholls second string here in Eglantine Du Seuil (13/2) who has recently been transferred to the Nicholls yard from Willie Mullins. The selection ran a fairly decent race in the Coral Cup in March and has some decent form from Ireland running behind the likes of Honeysuckle and Stormy Ireland. Bryan Carver takes the ride on the selection who has the burden of top weight here but I am expecting a bold showing despite carrying a big weight.
2.05 Doncaster
Yes the turf flat season is still on and the next selection comes up in the Betfair Exchange British EBF Gillies Fillies Stakes which is another listed contest ran over 1m 2f. My selection here is Trefoil (8/1) who I thought ran a cracker in the Group 3 Darley Pride Stakes at Newmarket last time out behind the promising filly Angel Power. The Ralph Beckett charge will love the soft ground and is lightly raced this season.
The selection takes a step down in class here and I expect Rob Hornby to bounce out from the front here and make all.
2.40 Aintree
The Williamhill.com Best Odds Guaranteed Hurdle is a race I’m looking forward to. Anyone who has listened to the Onthenod Podcast will know I’m very keen on the Nicky Henderson trained Call Me Lord (11/4) NAP here who I think will excel at today’s trip. The selection got ran off its feet last time out in the Champion Hurdle and I’m happy to put a line through that performance.
The Munir and Souede owned Gelding has excellent form in behind If The Cap Fits at 2m 3f and I feel the extra furlong today will not cause any problems. It’s worth noting Roksana finished in behind the selection that day who went on to win the big staying hurdle race at Wetherby last week.
The main danger here will come in the shape of Summerville Boy who will appreciate the step down in trip and has run admirably in some decent staying contests.
3.00 Wincanton
The Unibet Elite Hurdle is Grade 1 contest ran over 1m 7f. I will keep this as brief as possible as I believe the short priced Sceau Royal (11/10) may be a class above its rivals today. The Alan King charge ran well on his seasonable reappearance scoring comfortably in a half-decent contest at Ffos Las finishing ahead of the likes of Ballyandy and the Bannerkingrebel. Sceau Ro
Solo may well be anything but I’m not sold on the hype at the moment and after bombing in the Triumph Hurdle last time out and I feel the four-year-old is best watched today.
3.15 Doncaster
The next selection comes up in the Betfair November Handicap which is a class 2 event ran over 1m 3f. The horse I like here is Euchen Glen (7/1) NB the Jim Goldie charge arrives here on the back of two Group 3 wins at Newbury and York where he trounced the highly rated Gosden charge Logician. Last time out at Newbury Paul Mulrennan came there swinging off Euchen Glen at the furlong pole and gave the impression he had plenty more in the tank with Mulrennan advising it was one of easiest winners he has ever ridden.
The selection carries top weight but will love the soft ground and seems to be progressing with age so we can be hopeful of a classic weight carrying performance.
3.35 Wincanton
The final selection comes up in the Badger Beers Silver Trophy Handicap Chase which is a listed contest ran over 3m 1f. My selection here is the tenacious Kitty’s Light E/W (18/1) who has been running throughout the summer so we know fitness will not be an issue. The Christian Williams trained charge is carrying a feather on its back today and Jack Tudor adds to that by taking off a handy 5lbs.
The selection is not easy on the eye so don’t expect him to be approaching the final fence on the bridle. At the moment the going description is good which will we require here for a good performance so bare this in mind if you follow.
This is a step up in class for the son of Nathaniel but I am hopeful of grabbing some each-way money at the minimum.
