1:15 Longchamp
First up on Arc Day is the 1:15 contest and we have a 7f contest for the 2-year-olds. Coventry Stakes surprise winner Nandi Parrado heads the market and will do for many as he ran well on soft ground in France last time out to back up his Ascot win.
I prefer the chances of SEALIWAY 9/2 EW here at a decent price. Sealiway came second on his latest start in a Group 3 contest keeping on well here at Longchamp. I think this softer ground will bring out more improvement and jockey Barzalona is riding very well at the moment.
1:50 Longchamp
The 1:50 race is another for the 2-year-olds but this time over a mile. These will be a tough stamina test for this lot on this ground and stamina will come to the fort. Pretty Gorgeous heads the market for Joseph O’Brien but he’s worth taken on at the prices.
The one for me is HARAJUKU 8/1 EW for the Andre Fabre team. He won well on his debut before finishing second over this course and distance next time out. The ground shouldn’t be an issue judged on pedigree and I expect him to improve further now for the master trainer. Fabre’s horses are in great nick at the moment and he’s a cracking ew bet here.
3:05 Longchamp
The feature comes at 3:05 as Enable bids to make history and win her third Arc. We would all love to see her win but as a 6-year-old mare on this type of ground, she can’t be a betting proposition today.
It’s another race to play e/w for me which is the theme of the day given the conditions and the one for me is SOTTSASS 13/2 EW. Sottsass ran well when finishing one place behind Enable in the 2019 renewal of this contest. He has improved with every run this term and his staying on fourth in the Irish Champion Stakes last time out reads well here. The rain won’t be a problem and he has ran a lot of his better races on rain-softened ground. Trainer JC Rouget is on fire at the moment with a 42% strike rate in the last 2 weeks and he is a great e/w bet today.
3:50 Longchamp
The Arc may be the feature but there is plenty more top Group 1 action that follows. It starts here with the Prix de L’Opera, a Group 1 for the fillies over 1m2f.
The horse I like here is TARNAWA 6/1 NB. I was really impressed with this filly last time out where she powered clear to win by 3l here at Longchamp. Arc contender Raabihah was behind her that day and that form is bound to read well in this contest. Dermot Weld knows what he’s doing when he has a good horse on his hand and he’s brought us filly on well and I don’t think she’s finished improving yet. Ground should be fine as she’s won on soft in the pat.
4:25 Longchamp
Next up is the Group 1 for the sprinters as the Prix De L’Abbaye takes centre stage over 5f. The camera angle spoils the race from a viewing perspective but here we are.
I like GLASS SLIPPERS 9/4 here. He won this well race last season very well and will be right at home under these conditions. He is running as well as ever this season and for me he is the favourite with the least questions to answer on today’s card and I’m happy to include him.
I also fancy SESTILIO JET 33/1 EW to outrun his huge odds here today. He is the rank outsider here by I’m intrigued by the trainer reaching for first time blinkers as I do really believe it’ll help this horse. He won last time out on soft ground so he’s proven in that regards and the trainer Andrea Marcialis is in rude form. The jockey booking of Cristian Demuro is a positive and we have seen shocks in this race before.
4:55 Longchamp
Next up is the final Group 1 of the day and it is the Prix de la Foret over 7f. Earthlight heads the market and will prove popular after his win last time but like I’ve said all day I’m happy to take on the short priced favourites on a day like this.
The one for me here is TROPBEAU 16/1 EW NAP who will be right at home in these conditions. He stayed on best of the rest behind favourite Earthlight last time out and I think she’ll be better suited to the heavy ground today and I’m hopeful that’ll result in her turning the tables on that rival here. She gets weight off her rivals and at the prices along with the form of the Fabre runners as of late I’m happy to include her here.
