Lucky 15 Tips for Saturday’s ITV Racing from Doncaster
Over at Leopardstown, Ghaiyyath bids to win a fifth race this season when contesting the Irish Champion Stakes.
He is likely to start an odd-on favourite so for Lucky 15 betting tip purposes, all four races in this preview are selected from Doncaster’s quality meeting. The St Leger is the highlight alongside the Champagne Stakes and Group 2 Park Stakes. The competitive Portland Handicap is also added to the mix with all four races from the Town Moor set to be televised on ITV racing.

Bet365 Champagne Stakes – 1.50 Doncaster
Albasheer was an impressive winner of his only start when scoring by more than six lengths when scoring at Doncaster during late July and he now steps upwards in grade to tackle this 7f Group 2 event. He quickened clear on the Town Moor that day and was never asked a serious question.
Among his opponents will be Chindit who is unbeaten in both starts and another course and distance winner. He also claimed a comfortable victory in a Listed event at Ascot last time. Mujbar will an additional threat after scoring by seven lengths at Newmarket last time in soft going. That effort was a vast improvement on his previous outing when failing to land a blow at Newbury.
Take note also of Devious Company who failed to produce his best form at Naas last time but he has twice finished second in Group 2 company this term while Saint Lawrence has much to find with Chindit on Ascot running.
Tip – Albasheer to win.
Bet365 Portland Handicap – 2.25 Doncaster
A very competitive field is set to tackle this extended 5f Class 2 handicap and Mountain Peak will bid to follow a narrow victory at Haydock over a similar distance last month. Consistent this season, he has twice won at this level and should be suited by the trip.
Soldier’s Minute should also be a contender after finishing a narrow second in a decent York handicap last time. He finished well that day and the same may apply in this contest as he is more of a six furlongs horse.
Second in this race last year, A Momentofmadness is another interesting challenger especially with a 4lb lower rating than last September. Unfortunately, he has failed to win since claiming this same prize two years previously but he cannot be discounted on a favoured track. He is a regular in this race.
Jawwaal could also be involved despite a relatively poor effort in his last outing at York. He had won his two previous races which includes beating Mountain Peak but meets the runner-up on 4lb worse terms, while Arecibo finished further back in that race but is now fairly well-weighted from earlier in the season.
Tip – Soldier’s Minute to win.
Bet365 Park Stakes – 3.00 Doncaster
For this 7f Group 2 contest, Limato will be competing in just his second race of the season after winning at Newmarket on his reappearance. He is a winner at this level in previous seasons and appears more favoured by a faster surface.
There will be several other threats in the race including One Master who was no match for Safe Voyage at York last time but who won the Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood on her previous outing. This 7f distance is probably her ideal trip.
Seven furlongs is also favoured by Molatham who is a course and distance winner and won the Jersey Stakes earlier this term. Finishing fifth behind Pinatubo at Deauville in Group 1 company last time was no disgrace whereas Wichita has not really progressed from finishing second in the 2,000 Guineas. This step down to Group 2 level may be a sound move.
Tip – One Master to win.
Pertemps St Leger Stakes– 3.35 Doncaster
This Group 1 classic staged over an extended 1m6f looks set to an open contest with several horses fancied by their respective stables. William Muir will be optimistic of another decent performance from Pyledriver who easily won York’s Great Voltigeur Stakes for the ITV7 competition after impressing in the King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot. In between, he disappointed in the Epsom Derby but that performance can probably be excused with this flatter track more suitable.
Opposition will include the Aidan O’Brien trained Santiago who won the Irish Derby before failing to beat Stradivarius at Goodwood over two miles. This distance may be more appropriate as he won the Queen’s Vase at Ascot over 1m6f.
Hukum will be another contender and he has won both starts this term including the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury in a manner which suggests he will be competitive at this trip.
No horse was more impressive at the Glorious Goodwood meeting than Subjectivist and he should also provide a strong challenge. He won the 1m6f March Stakes by fifteen lengths but he is not always reliable and may need soft conditions to produce his best form.
One of the dark horses of this race is Irish trained Galileo Chrome who has won all three contests this term, the latter two of which were by six and five lengths. Stamina does not appear to be an issue with his latest victory secured in a 1m5f event.
Tip – Pyledriver to win.
