Monday’s Newcastle Tips for the Restart of the British Racing Season
Well after 74 days away from the track in Britain, we are here. The return of racing is a timely distraction from the current events taking place in our world and Kyle has picked TEN Newcastle betting tips for the Monday action.
I have the pleasure of analysing the meeting at Newcastle and the 10 races on show there.
So without hesitation let’s crack on.

Betway Welcome Back British Racing Handicap (1m 5y) – 1.00pm
The first race on show is the 13.00 Betway Welcome Back British Racing Handicap (1m 5y), with current market favourite Stone Mason, having made the move over to the stable of Michael Appleby, being the standout name of trainers in the previewed race, he was last raced 300 days ago when finishing 6th of 10th, 9 lengths behind the winner Ritchie Valens.
My tip for this race is TIERCEL (7/1) ridden by Rowan Scott trained by Rebecca Bastiman. He has won three times from 7f to 1m including two of these on the all-weather, beaten by a head last time out when bested by Rockley Point here in March, i expect him to go one better here.
Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap (1m 5y) – 1.35pm
Current market favourite is Mutasaamy ridden by Jim Crowley and trained by R Varian won at Kempton in August, he has raced 5 times winning once and placing twice and will be included in the run-up to the finish if not hampered.
But I am going for GEIZY TEIZY (8/1) ridden by Ben Curtis and trained by Marco Botti. Curtis was in red hot form at Newcastle before the break up of racing and with the horse not setting the world alight with her last performance here, I reckon the form of Curtis and this horse’s previous form in bigger races, I wouldn’t be surprised to see her bounce back here.
Betway Novice Stakes (6f) – 2.10pm
Current market favourites are Blazing Hot ridden by P J McDonald and trained by J Tate and Bond’s boy ridden by T.Hamilton and trained by R.A.Fahey, the first-named being an unraced dam with little experience I would probably avoid as not a lot has been said about this horse.
Bond’s boy ran an excellent race finishing 3rd out of a field 28 at Newmarket and will be a danger in this race and has 1 win to his name as well so I expect him to be well in the mix.
One to keep an eye out for is LITTLE RED SOCKS (9/2) who has won 6 times between 1m to 1m 4f so distance isn’t an issue with Ben Curtis on board this is a very tempting outfit and wouldn’t rule out a Ben Curtis double.

Betway Novice Stakes (6f) – 2.45pm
The current market favourites are Art Power and Magical Journey both horses having two runs winning 1 apiece and placing in one.
Both have been hit with a penalty with their successes. I am going with ART POWER (11/8) on this one. I just think with De Sousa booked he will be able to navigate around this rise in weight and bring home the spoils.
Heed your Hunch At Betway Handicap (6f) – 3.20pm
The current market favourite is Heath Charnock who has only won twice out of 12 runs but placed in half of these runs I expect him to fall down the betting due to horses with better win percentages.
In my eyes, I believe the spoils will go to TATHMEEN (4/1) with Cam Hardie on board and trained by Anthony Brittain – now he might not have the same amount of wins and places that Trickie Dicky does but has run slightly less, but he has won here 3 times this season and narrowly missed out on top spot last time out at Wolverhampton when beaten 1/2l by Fizzy feet. He has also won 6 out of 7 races on the all-weather and I expect him to bounce back with a win.
Trickie Dicky and Heath Charnock are predicted to be slugging it out for the runners up spot.
Betway Casino Handicap (6f) – 3.55pm
The favourite in the latest betting odds is Oakenshield, ridden by Andrea Atzeni trained by K A Ryan. The horse is unplaced in both starts and was poor last time out, but that was 245 days ago. Since then he has had a breathing operation and may be involved in the finish.
Rock of Diamonds ridden by Silvestre De Sousa and trained by S & E Crisford placed in both starts, looks to be a leading contender in this race and with De Sousa on board another set to be included in the run in.
One to watch out for is ALIX JAMES (9/1) who is my Newcastle 3.55pm betting tip, ridden by P Mulrennan and trained by Iain Jardine
He broke the hoodoo last time out at Musselburgh when using experience to good use staying on well and drops down in trip here, He has placed 5/7 races so the drop in trip may continue the success at decent each-way odds.
Betyourway At Betway Handicap (5f) – 4.30pm
Be Proud, ridden by Donald Tudhope and trained by J S Goldie has form on the all weather and is the current favourite. He missed out on top spot last time out here in January and is fancied to go well again, the jockey was in form before the break and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them go well again.
Indian Sounds caught the eye when runner up here in February, 5th last time but he’s a type his yard does well with and jockey choice is strong with Osain Murphy on board.
FOX HILL (7/1) found her feet during the latter part of 2019 for new yard scoring over 5f at Catterick September. She ran a good third last time out at Hamilton and with trainer Eric Alston having a good record with his sprinters this horse is the selection.
Queen of Kalahri was in fine form in the second part of 2019 making it 4 wins out of last 5 starts at Southwell (6f). but she has been penalised for that win however a drop down in trip could be an advantage so is respected.
Hard one to split but I am picking Fox Hill.

Betway Handicap (1m 4f) – 5.05pm
Alignak heads the market for the 5.05pm with Osain Murphy on board trained by Sir Michael Stoute. He won on his latest outing when 6/4 at Kempton beating Noble Music in September, is a slow burner but will be suited to journey, one to keep an eye on.
But ICE PYRAMID (4/1) is one cool customer having 6 runs and placing in 5 of the races, successful twice over 1m 4f on the all-weather, has won twice at Newcastle this season beating Groveman by 5l. With Ben Curtis on board expect him to be a high finisher.
December Second also another to keep tabs on, with 3 wins out of seven starts and 6 places, is looking well ahead of his mark and looks to have more to offer.
My tip for this one is Ice Pyramid, I just think to have previous experience around here and Curtis onboard should be enough.
Betway Maiden Stakes (1m 2f 42y) – 5.40pm
The current head of the market is FRANKLY DARLING (4/6) who was beaten by 1l when second of 9 on her debut at Yarmouth over 1m heavy in October. The daughter of Frankel will be one for the future and I think has enough to show her class here.
Another Frankel colt is running Dream With Me, who will make it’s racecourse debut and is another one to watch for the future.
Cracking Destiny makes his flat debut tomorrow with Graham Lee on board, last seen over hurdles when 6/5 favourite beating Mint Condition at Carlisle by 11/4l. That was over 2m 1f so distance is no issue so at 50/1 is a massive price but is carrying 10st.
Betway Maiden Stakes (1m 2f 42y) – 6.15pm
Valyrian Steel heads the market and is another son of Frankel on the Monday Newcastle card.
But I think the danger here is BYZANTINE EMPIRE (7/2), trained by John Gosden. The selection has had 8 months off and placed on his debut, but was poor last time out but with the time off I think have done this 3-year-old well and with mastermind Gosden training I think this horse has more to offer and think it will start here.
