Newcastle Racing Tips 02/06/20 – Preview and Selection for Every Race on the Card
The British horse racing got back underway yesterday with some shock results on the Newcastle card. Today’s meeting gives us another 10 races from which to pick our Tuesday Newcastle racing tips.
Another cracking 10 race card for punters to get stuck into today. I would advise small stakes as we will learn as the days go on what trainer’s horses may be benefitting from the delay more than others and it will gradually become easier to study the formbook as the flat season develops. Nevertheless, the action today is not bad at all and working out what trainers may start strong has to be a part of my thinking with selections.

Selections must be odds of 3/1 or bigger to qualify.
4 or more horses must run in the race.
The opener is a tricky wide-open Class 4 handicap for 4-year-olds and above over 1m. The current favourite at the time of writing is the Tom Dascombe trained Jackstar who is 5/1 which stresses how wide open the opener is.
The horse I like is TOUGH REMEDY E/W (8/1 Bet365). Tough Remedy returned to form with a third-place finish beaten less than a length last time out at Kempton and if that run can be backed up here I can see him going very close. Tough Remedy has a 40%-win rate at Newcastle winning 2 out of his 5 appearances at the track. Megan Nicholls takes the ride and her 3lb claim could prove valuable in this tight race.
With the first choice selection Sandret being declared a N/R I have had to look elsewhere.
The horse I also liked in the race was IRRELEVANT 7/1 (E/W) for the Richard Fahey team. He was progression well throughout last season and I think he will continue that progression in 2020. Fahey is already on the board since racing resumed and I think he has a great chance to add to his tally here.
Another tough handicap for us to get stuck into over the 7f distance. The horse I look is the Archie Watson trained CANAGAT (WIN). Canagat shown plenty of promise in his two runs last year winning the latter of them. Archie Watson is a trainer who is very good at getting his horses to peak fitness for the first run of the season and I think we will see a strong run from his horse Canagat in this one. Hollie Doyle takes the ride.

The 2.30 is an exciting looking Class 2 handicap over the 6f distance. The Sir Michael Stoute trained Mubakker leads the market and this unexposed sort will do for many at around the price of 2/1
The fact Mubakker is a short-priced favourite makes this a good e/w race as the second favourite is priced up at 8/1. The horse I think is a great e/w bet is COSMIC LAW (E/W). Cosmic Law has ran well over this course and distance in the past and has ran well off the back of a break in the past. Richard Fahey and PJ McDonald team up on this one and 10/1 seems more than fair with a lot of bookmakers paying top 4 e/w.
The first maiden race comes at 3.05 as the 2 years-old newcomers take to the stage. The horse I like is LOCKDOWN (WIN). I think Hugo Palmer is going to have a great season, especially with his 2-year olds. Palmer had a poor 2019 for his standards but he did finish the year strongly with plenty of winners late on. Palmer has a 21% strike rate with his 2-year olds here and this horse is bred to start its campaign strongly. The name is very fitting as well of course.
Another race for our 2-year-old newcomers and the one for me is VICTORY HEIGHTS (EW). I am a big fan of trainer James Tate and he does very well with his 2-year olds throughout the calendar. I would expect his 2-year-olds to be at peak fitness ready to go first time out. Victory Heights is related to numerous other two-year-old winners and I think he is a more than fair e/w price again for us.
A maiden fillies’ stakes for the 2-year-olds and it’s another race full of newcomers. The one for me is VIRGINIA PLANE (WIN) (NAP). Trained by John Quinn ridden by Jason Hart, this t5f trip should not be an issue as she is a half-sister to last season’s smart juvenile Liberty Beach for the same connections. I think connections will be hoping Virginia Plane can follow a similar path hopefully starting with a win first time out just like her half-sister did last year over the same distance.
We have another race full of newcomers over 5f for the fillies. The one I like is DESERT VISION (WIN) (NB). Like I said earlier, James Tate does well with his 2-year-olds and they more often than not run well first time out. Tate has a 22% strike rate at Newcastle with his juveniles and this daughter of Oasis Dream could well increase that strike rate.
Mountain Ruler has been declared a NR this morning so again it’s Plan B for our punt in this one.
I was torn between two in this race so I am happy to side with BLUE MEDICI 8/1 (E/W). Another horse that progressed well in 2019 winning four times in total and twice over today’s distance. I am confident he can continue on the upward curve into 2020 and 8/1 is a fair ew bet today.
The final race on another great card from Newcastle is a Class 3 handicap over the 1m2f distance. Archie Watson saddles the favourite Medal Winner for Qatar Racing and will prove popular for punters in the finale.
The one for me is JUS PIRES (E/W). Impressive over C+D back in February I can see this horse improving further for the shrewd Declan Carroll and his current price of 7/1 seems more than fair.
