Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes – 1.50 Newmarket

After winning a Sandown maiden over 7f, Kameko only just failed over the same course and distance when a fast-finishing second behind Positive. He gave the impression that the extra furlong of this race would suit and deserves to compete at Group 2 level.

Surf Dancer is another leading contender with the William Haggas trained horse winning his last two starts, but this race is a much more formidable test. He was fourth lengths behind Mum’s Tipple at Ascot but will be more suited by this one mile distance.

There will also be optimism regarding the prospects of Highland Chief who finished third behind Pinatubo last time while Pyledriver is proven at the distance but steps upwards from Listed company.

Tip – Kameko to Win (11/8).

Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes – 2.25 Newmarket

For this 2-year-old 6f Group 1 race for fillies, Nurse Barbara could be an interesting contender for the Ger Lyons stable. Having comfortably won her maiden debut race over 6f at Cork, she was then narrowly beaten into second place in a 7f Listed event at Leopardstown. It may just be that 6f is her optimum trip for now.

Among a strong group of challengers is the Northern trained Raffle Prize who completed a three-timer in the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes before just failing behind leading French juvenile colt Earthlight in Deauville’s Prix Morny. She will be difficult to beat in this contest but Tropbeau is expected to mount a serious challenge.

Trained by Andre Fabre in France, she has improved throughout the season culminating in a third successive victory when claiming a Group 2 event at Deauville. Tropbeau beat just three other runners that day but reverting to 6f may not favour this filly.

Living In The Past should also be respected after winning the Lowther Stakes at York last time, but she may not appreciate much easier ground.

Tip – Raffle Prize to win (11/10)

Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes Tip – 3.00 Newmarket

Both Earthlight and Siskin are unbeaten in their four starts to date and will be competing for this 6f Group 1 contests for 2-year-olds amid a serious challenge from other decent colts. The former horse won a Group 1 event last time and has become a course specialist at Deauville. He should not be troubled by the distance nor the easing of the ground.

Siskin has won all his races in Ireland, winning the latest three contests at the Curragh. The Aidan O’Brien colt Monarch Of Egypt was his victim on the last two occasions and there is no reason to suggest a reversal in form is likely.

The unblemished form of the colts mentioned in the opening paragraph for this race will be tested by the Richard Hannon trained pair Threat and Mum’s Tipple. Threat has raced in several of the top juvenile races this year and has finished first or second in his five outings. He won the Gimcrack and Champagne Stakes more recently but this contest will a fourth quality race since the beginning of August.

Mum’s Tipple created a very favourable impression when winning at York by eleven lengths after leading for the entire 6f. He beat some decent horses in his only other race at Ascot including dual subsequent scorer Molatham. It would be unwise to ignore this improving horse on his step upwards in class.

Tip – Mum’s Tipple to Win (2/1)

Bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap Tip – 3.40 Newmarket

Recent rain at Newmarket will have helped the prospects for Good Birthday in this 1m1f Class 2 event and he prepared for this contest by winning around the stiff Beverley track over a similar distance. The Andrew Balding colt is reasonably treated at the weights for this race.

Just 3lb higher in the handicap is the lightly raced Le Don De Vie from the Hughie Morrison stable. He has won three of his four starts this term and has been beaten only by Sir Ron Priestley over 10f at Goodwood. The 3-year-old colt is unproven on soft ground.

The John Gosden / Frankie Dettori partnership is also expected to prominent with Lord North who is lightly raced this season. Having won a minor event at Newcastle on his seasonal debut, he was then last of eight runners in a Listed contest on Sandown before a creditable second-placed finish at Ascot earlier this month in handicap company. Easing of the ground may help his chances.

Fifth Position will be another danger after running respectably in Listed company this season. This race will be his initial start in a handicap.

Tip – Lord North to Win (10/1)
