Saturday’s Horse Racing: Lucky 15 Tip for the ITV Racing (05/09/20)
Enable completes her preparations for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe by racing in Kempton’s September Stakes on Saturday but she isn’t part of our lucky 15 tips. She is expected to start at a very short odds-on favourite so that race is bypassed, although the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes is included from the same card.
The other three races feature events at Haydock with the Betfair Sprint providing the main highlight, and all four races are set to be televised on ITV racing.

Betfair Superior Mile Stakes – 1.45 Haydock
The Roger Varian trained Khaloosy is expected to be one of several challengers for this Group 3 1m affair and the grey colt won an Ascot handicap first time out this season before finishing third behind the useful Tilsit at Goodwood in his latest appearance.
He will be opposed by My Oberon who finished second in that Goodwood race and was badly hampered in the final furlong. He had earlier won by six lengths over this distance at York and appears to be a progressive type.
Top Rank could also be a contender after winning all of his first four starts before finishing a very close third behind Montatham in a recent valuable handicap at York. Stepping into Group company will be a challenge for the latter William Haggas trained gelding.
Tip – My Oberon to Win
Unibet Sirenia Stakes – 2.00 Kempton
After winning his first two races as a 2-year-old, Mystery Smiles competed in the Gimcrack Stakes in which he was not disgraced when third behind the impressive Minzaal. He now drops to Group 3 company for this 6f contest.
Mighty Gurkha will hope for a better start in this race than last time at Deauville when very slowly leaving the stalls and losing much early ground. He had previously finished second in a Listed contest at Newbury amid suggestions that he just lacked extra finishing pace.
Others to consider include Zamaani who won twice before conceding 3lb when beaten less than a length by Mystery Smiles at Chester during early August. There is also Nomadic Empire who has raced over 5f in all four races to date, but his very narrow defeat in a recent Listed event at York indicated a possible preference for this extra furlong.
Tip – Mystery Smiles to win
Betfair Exchange Old Borough Cup Handicap – 2.50 Haydock
A competitive field has been assembled for this 1m6f Class 2 contest with Future Investment aiming to build upon a comfortable Chester success last time over two miles. Connections will now be hoping for a first success at this level despite a 6lb rise in rating.
The consistent Rhythmic Intent will provide useful opposition after a decent victory at Newbury last time. With two wins from four starts this Summer, he has risen in the ratings but needs further improvement to win at this grade.
Cape Coast is another horse to have a new slightly higher rating but his win in a recent Class 2 handicap at Newmarket over this distance probably merited that rise. He has performed well in his two races this season after a very lengthy absence.
Take note also of Rajinsky who has finished a narrow second-place in his last three starts, the latter two of which were valuable Class 2 handicaps. He remains on a decent weight and he was perhaps unfortunate to be beaten by Calling The Wind at Ascot during early July.
Tip – Rajinsky to Win
Betfair Sprint Cup Stakes – 3.25 Haydock
For this Group 1 race staged over 6f, Dream Of Dreams will hope to follow his easy victory in Newbury’s Hungerford Stakes by winning this contest at the second time of asking. He finished eighth in this event last season after a very slow start and was subsequently never competitive.
Hello Youmzain was the winner of this race last September and he also narrowly beat Dream Of Dreams in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes back in June. Although he subsequently produced a fairly disappointing effort in the July Cup, he returned to form with a close second at Deauville.
Another horse to consider is Art Power who was strongly fancied for the Nunthorpe Stakes prior to finishing fifth. He never really travelled that day but there is a suspicion that he may not be so competitive at this higher grade.
Golden Horde should also come into the reckoning especially after winning the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot. He was then beaten into third place in the July Cup before finishing fifth at Deauville but on each occasion, there were only small margins of defeat. Lope Y Fernandez was well-beaten by Golden Horde at Ascot but gives the impression that 7f is his preferred distance.
Tip – Hello Youmzain to Win
