The opening contest on Day 3 is the Sky Bet Handicap over 1m 3f 188y and I am going for an each-way tip to start the day in ON TO VICTORY for trainer Alan King and Jockey Tom Marquand. A Smart Stayer for Eve Johnson Houghton who showed useful form in defeat over hurdles for the current stable. He is given a chance now back on the flat and wearing a hood. I feel distance shouldn’t be a problem for him with him placing in distances well over today’s trip. His last win came back in 2017 with none other than Tom Marquand on board. So I am hoping for history to rewrite itself today. He is well handicapped and I feel has a chance of a place here. The ones to watch out for are Zabeel Champion who is stepping up in trip and is in great form for Mark Johnston and the other Mark Johnston Challenger King’s Caper, who will be hoping for more rain. Koeman will look to run a big race and Alfaatik will be looking to reverse his form.
The next race of the day is the Group 2 Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup Stakes over 2m 56Y and with Stradivarius missing this out you would think my selection NAYEF ROAD has the best chance here after being runner up to Stradivarius in his last two outings for Mark Johnston’s 4-year-old. He was the Gordon Stakes winner in 2019 and looked even better up in trip this summer, landing the Sagaro Stakes on his reappearance prior to the two runners up efforts in Group 1 company. A step down in class will help massively and for me, he is the one to beat. Enbihaar was a late starter as a 3-year-old and can be a danger to NAYEF ROAD. Dashing Willoughby was the Queens Vase winner last year at Royal Ascot and has looked even better this summer with performances so Andrew Balding will be hoping for his 4-year-old to complete a hat trick here after winning his last two races at Newmarket and Sandown.
Next up we have the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes Group 2 race over 6f and I am going for an each-way shot again who was only a neck behind Yazaman when last seen at Goodwood 22 days ago. The horse I am going with is LAUDED for trainer Tom Dascombe and jockey Richard Kingscote. He was impressive on his debut at Haydock over this distance and was caught in midfield in the Coventry Stakes at Ascot. He finished well in the Richmond Stakes and I feel he can progress again. It will be hard for him but he likes this distance. Ubettabelieveit will be looking to complete a hat trick for trainer Nigel Tinkler who is stepping up in trip for the first time. Yazaman sets the standard here and has a good draw so you can expect him to be involved. Mizaal will be looking to improve again after an impressive win at Sailsbury but was beat by Mohawk King on his debut. Seven Brothers won over C&D here but this is a big step up.

Now we have the big race of the day the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes over 5f and its very hard to go against BATTAASH who will be looking to retain his crown after winning this in spectacular fashion last year. He has been so impressive over the summer and still looks the part as a 6-year-old. Art Power will be the main threat to BATTAASH but it will be tough to get the better of this class act. Ornate ran a massive race at Goodwood when 3rd behind BATTAASH and is at a big price again, its hard to say if he can follow that up again.
The British Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden Stakes over 7f has a field of 10 runners after Maximal pulled out as a non-runner earlier today. I think its hard to go against NAVAL CROWN who is now the short-priced favourite who has been third on both of his starts. He is stepping back down in class and will be looking to get his first victory here. The Charlie Appleby 2-year-old is the leading player for me after a good run last time out at Ascot in a listed contest and will take all the beating. Tawleed looked impressive on his debut and can put in another big performance. Dingle has E/W claims as he has plenty of speed in his pedigree and is stepping up in trip.
In the second last race of the day, the British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap over 1m 2f 56y. I like the look of CHAMADE. She has improved on each of her three runs this season and looked impressive when staying on well to win at Goodwood 23 days ago beating Waliyak who is running against her today as well again. She has been hit with an 8lb penalty but I feel she can still progress here and can’t be ruled out. Waliyak is 5lb better off now and will be looking to reverse that form against CHARMADE. Asiaaf has been taking steps forward in each of her 4 runs and has been hit with a 4lb rise but she can still be well in the mix here. First Kingdom makes her handicap debut and can be one to watch. Angel Power one of the two Roger Varian trained horses in this race and the other, Waliyak can be another to watch out for as she steps up in trip after placing in two 1m handicaps at Haydock and Goodwood. Virgin Snow has good pedigree and will be looking to get back to winning ways after landing a 10f handicap at Haydock back in June.
In the last race of the day, we have a competitive Class 2 handicap over 7f 192y, the Sky Bet Mile Stakes, and I think HARTSWOOD E/W can get involved for the team of Richard Fahey and Paddy Mathers. He was a close third against Black Caspian who also takes the field here back in July here. He stepped up in trip here next time when last seen winning over C&D 27 days ago. He has been hit with a 6lb penalty, this is a tougher race but I feel he still merits respect. Finest Sound has been impressive off late and will be hoping for a little more rain to go in his favour so he can be a leading contender here. Visinari was impressive when winning on debut at Newmarket last June before going close in Group 2 company so he will be one to watch as a 3-year-old. Eastern World has a tough draw to navigate from but if able to do so he can be a danger here. Cold Front will have more to offer as he is now handicapping. Brunch has E/W claims with a good draw for the Michael Dods team. Overwrite Handles most grounds but has a wide draw and keep an eye out for Mon Chox who is looking to complete a hat-trick for Andrew Balding after winning at Winsdor and Sandown. He has went up the weights for the successes but remains with plenty of potential.
