Weekend Tips – Both Teams to Score

Man City vs. QPR

If QPR lose this game they will be relegated. I cannot see them going out without some kind of fight; they put up a good showing against Chelsea, looked threatening in attack and even controlled the game in small parts. Admittedly The R’s record of winning away matches is terrible, but they do tend to score in them; in their last 10 away games they have managed to score an impressive 16 goals, however they do tend to concede far too many! City have all but secured a Champions League place and have not much to play for other than second place. City conceded 2 against Villa in their last home match and their defence looked shaky and vulnerable to Villa’s pacy attack. QPR will put up a big fight and I'm backing both teams to score here.

Chelsea vs. Liverpool

Chelsea may well be Champions, but Mourinho will not treat this game as a non-event. He may well give a few youngsters a chance but he will be desperate to maintain his fantastic home record. Liverpool are still in with a shout of a top four place and as Man United face a tricky trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday evening, Liverpool may start the match with Chelsea knowing that a win would take them within a point of fourth place. Mourinho's men have been yextremely tight defensively at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, but given that the title is in the bag, I feel the players will take their foot off the gas ever so slightly. I expect an open game with both teams having plenty of chances.

Aberdeen vs. Celtic

The top two meet at Pittodrie in a game that will not affect the position of either team. Games like this with little pressure on them usually end up producing goals; neither side will want to lose and so both sets of players will be free to play their natural game. Aberdeen have been impressive at home for most of the season and will be a stern test for newly crowned Champions Celtic. Aberdeen’s last defeat at home came at the hands of Celtic in a game that ended up finishing 2-1 to the Hoops. I feel that both teams are very likely to score again in this match too.

Stevenage vs. Southend

Stevenage finished 12 points behind Southend in the league, but when the two teams last met at Broadhall, Borough beat The Shrimpers 4-2. Both teams are in decent scoring form and I expect that this playoff first leg will follow a similar pattern as the corresponding league fixture. Southend have only failed to score in 3 of their last 20 away matches and Stevenage will do well to keep them out. Playoff matches tend to bring out the nerves in players and this usually ends up leading to mistakes and lots of goals. I expect both teams to notch in this one.
