Despite languishing in a disappointing 11th place in the Premier League, Everton have scored just two fewer goals – 46 in 26 games – than the joint top scorers; Spurs and Man City (48 from 26). The Toffee’s poor form has certainly not been due to an inability to stick the ball away. It’s their mediocre defending that has cost them dear on so many occasions this season. For Bournemouth’s maiden season in the Premier League, they have proven themselves to be an extremely efficient and hardworking side, proving a tough match for every side they’ve come up against. Notable wins for Eddie Howe’s side include a 2-1 victory over Man United at Old Trafford, as well as defeating the reigning champions Chelsea in their own back yard. Bournemouth have failed to score just once in their last six in the League, notching eight goals in the process and racking up four BTTS winners during this six-game period. Everton have scored 10 in their last five league encounters, and I’m pretty sure that when a Bournemouth side who are punching well above their weight, meet an Everton side with a confident attack and a leaky defence, goals are going should be inevitable for our weekend BTTS tip.
Both teams to score in Bournemouth v Everton? Yes.
12th meets 19th in League Two on Saturday, and looking at Stevenage’s away form, it’s easy to see why they have become a virtual mainstay in my BTTS accumulators this season. Borough have notched up 11 consecutive BTTS winners on the road, and they don’t look likely to end this run any time soon. Carlisle’s overall form has been relatively inconsistent this season, but their home form has remained decent overall, failing to win just one of their last eight games at Brunton Park, scoring 16 goals in the process and drawing just one blank, in a 2-0 defeat to second placed Plymouth. The overwhelming statistics, coupled with both team’s consistent scoring form make this game a very good shout for a BTTS winning tip.
Both teams to score in Carlisle v Stevenage? Yes.
Morecambe are another of the League Two sides that have become a perennial winner in my BTTS predictions this season, notching up eight consecutive BTTS winners in the League. The Shrimps come up against a Bristol Rovers side whose home form suggests that they should win the game, but Morecambe will definitely get chances to score at least a consolation or two. Despite being placed 17th in the League, Morecambe have scored in each of their last six away from The Globe Arena, notching up 10 goals, but conceding a hefty 13 during this period. Rovers have played out three BTTS winners in their last four games in the League, and I’m pretty confident that when the two sides meet, the game should produce at least a goal for each side. If I were to predict an outcome, I’d plump for a 3-2 home victory.
Both teams to score in Bristol Rovers v Morecambe? Yes.
To round off our weekend both teams to score tip we have another clash from League Two, with West Country side Yeovil welcoming Portsmouth to Huish Park. Yeovil have had a pretty terrible season, it must be said. They currently reside second from bottom in League Two, but there have been shoots of recovery in their recent form. The Glovers may have won just 5 games all season, but two of these victories have come in their last two home games, and they also managed a surprise 3-2 away victory over tenth placed AFC Wimbledon in January’s final fixture. Darren Way’s side have collected 10 points from a possible 18, and if they can maintain this recovery, they will be well on their way to consolidating their place in the Football League come next season. With Yeovil’s resurgence in form, coupled with the fact that sixth placed Portsmouth have played out six consecutive BTTS winners away from Fratton Park, the difference in League positions may not have a huge bearing on the game. One thing is certain, in my mind at least, and that’s that this match will produce goals for both teams.
Both teams to score in Yeovil v Portsmouth? Yes.
