Norwich vs. Fulham – Saturday 3pm – 10/11
Fulham have been given plenty of stick for their road form of late (especially by ESPN commentators who could literally find NOTHING else to talk about in their recent cup tie with Man United) but they’d be hard pushed to find a better chance to pick up points on the road than against a Norwich side who are struggling at home. Fulham will realise this chance and play a more open style than they usually do on the road, but even so their central midfield will still cause them problems, and expect Norwich to capitalise on the defence that has seen 14 go past them in the last 6 road trips. Norwich on the other hand will sit a little too deep at home and give Berbatov some room which he will capitalise on.
Chelsea vs. Wigan – Saturday, 3pm – 1/2
Even Rafa can’t mess this up. Wigan. At Home. Surely not? Either way, there will be goals. Chelsea face their favourite (and seemingly last remaining) whipping boys in Wigan, and despite the fact Wigan have held their own on the road recently, their defence will go weak at the knees (or in Caldwell’s case a bit thick in the head) and fall foul to a Chelsea onslaught. Wigan may have a bit of hope heading into the last 20 minutes no matter what the score seeing as Chelsea hold onto leads about as well as a stable next to a Findus plant holds onto its horses at the moment, but this one should be a straight forward Chelsea victory with plenty of goals.
Sunderland vs. Arsenal – Saturday, 3pm – 5/6
Martin O’Neill has quietly put Sunderland’s season back on track recently, making sure his side is closer to the top half than the relegation zone, however their hard discipline will be pulled apart this weekend by an Arsenal side who are riding high on confidence in the attacking department. The lack of pace in the Sunderland defence will be a problem, and the pace with which Arsenal moves the ball and their players means a penalty is almost inevitable in this one. As well as that, a lot of Sunderland’s strength come in the air, an area Arsenal do not try to exploit going forward but are suspect with at the back. A clean sheet for either side in this tie will be a great surprise, and I’m expecting Arsenal to really put their attacking mark on this one and put some pressure on Everton for their trip to Old Trafford on Sunday.
