With no Premier League and Championship games scheduled due to the international break, this Saturday win accumulator focusses on action from League One downwards. The first selection involves Fleetwood aiming to extend their unbeaten sequence on home soil this season while in League Two, struggling teams Walsall and Oldham face difficult away fixtures. The sixth tier of English football is also featured with in-form outfits Alfreton Town and Wealdstone hosting winnable games in the National League North and South respectively.
It has not been the best of weeks to date for Fleetwood with two defeats suffered in as many matches. A 2-1 EFL Trophy loss at Accrington Stanley was not helped by being reduced to ten players after 25 minutes and they were perhaps unfortunate to lose 2-0 at Lincoln on Saturday when dominating for long periods. Yet the Cod Army are unbeaten on home soil this term and now welcome Oxford to Highbury with the visitors needing a late goal to beat Norwich under-21’s in midweek. However, United have conceded at least twice in their last four League One matches and are winless on the road this term. A home win is tipped.
After winning 3-2 at Gillingham in midweek EFL Trophy action, Colchester are now unbeaten in five competitive matches and they would have been seeking a fourth successive win in League Two action but for conceding a very late equaliser in a recent 2-2 draw at Grimsby. A home clash with Walsall now awaits and the visitors lost a midweek penalty shoot-out after drawing 0-0 Coventry. Yet the Saddlers are winless in League Two action since an opening day 1-0 win at Northampton with three goals conceded in each of their last two latest defeats. Another loss is looming for Walsall.
A return to League Two action follows Plymouth’s penalty shoot-out victory against Bristol Rovers in midweek EFL Trophy action and the Pilgrims would have been seeking a fourth successive league victory at Home Park but for conceding a very late equaliser when recently drawing 2-2 with Salford. Oldham will be the visitors to the venue on Saturday and they have won just one League Two match all season when winning at Cambridge. The Latics have failed to find the net in four of their six league fixtures to date and are facing defeat at Plymouth.
For this clash in National League North, hosts Alfreton will be aiming to remain unbeaten on home soil this season. The Reds had also won four consecutive league games before losing 3-2 at a decent Kings Lynn team in midweek and they now welcome Curzon Ashton to the Impact Arena with the visitors winning just one of eight previous matches. Curzon have yet to win on their travels this term and were beaten 4-1 at Kings Lynn last month.
Clear National League South leaders Wealdstone host this clash against Oxford City having won their last seven fixtures scoring at least twice in their latest five contests. The Stones have also won all four games at Grosvenor Vale with the visitors winning just twice all season. City have lost three of their last five fixtures although they have tasted defeat only once on the road this season when beaten 3-1 by Welling United during mid-August.
